  1. I still think they should have taken MacKenzie Gore instead of Lewis. Wanted them to do it back in 2017 and wish they had Gore now instead of Lewis. If you are in the Twins market and you want ace pitcher potential you need to draft and develop pitching, or be able to trade for a pitcher you believe can be turned into an ace pitcher. Clearly, a team like the Twins, cannot buy an ace pitcher through free agency, and that's ok; however, sometimes you need to take a chance on a pitcher in your draft. Kohl Stewart may not have been successful, but he still did make it to the major leagues, and was claimed when DFA'd. Tyler Jay was a head scratching move as he was a reliever in college and magically he supposed to become a starter? That was a bad selection, but Stewart wasn't talked negatively about by the critics of the day. If my memory serves, most thought it was a high risk, high reward selection. My selection criteria is best available player regardless of position, but if batter/pitcher are both projected 55+ player, I'm going pitcher over hitter.
  2. I agree 100% with this. Front office essentially has until July 31st to make that trade for that guy or find him within the organization. IMO the guys that move Odo down that may be available: Luis Castillo Jon Gray Noah Syndagaard Anthony DeScalfini who might be Odo equivalent Robbie Ray Yu Darvish
  3. I never was good at spanish.... flunked it twice in school.
  4. Excellent move. Makes that lineup even deeper. So many possibilities with the order. Could get a little clogged with Donaldson, Cruz, and Sano on the basepaths, but hopefully they are just hitting each other in with mucho bombas! Hopefully the front office can now focus on making a trade or two to bring in a young fireballer and a solid veteran.
  5. Twins are too cheap to pay for people to steal signs.
  6. Excellent news! Big season for the big man!
  7. Excellent news! Good for Sano. Hope for a big year for the big man!
  8. Twins are fighting Berrios over $375,000. Seems like a petty line to draw if you hope to build good faith with the player for a potential extension.
  9. Check out his Instagram. He's posted a bunch of workout videos that he's been doing. A lot for his community as well. I really hope that he continues to become a better person as well as a better ballplayer. Big time Sano fan. Let's go Twins! Edit: Check out his "stories". That's where majority of his workouts have been posted.
  10. If you sign Dallas, "Dallas" by Alan Jackson would need to be played at every game he starts. You'd also need to sign a defensive minded third baseman and move Sano to first to ensure those extra groundballs that Keuchel will produce. I think he's a better bet to stay healthy for the duration of his contract more than I do Ryu. Doesn't sound like the Twins are interested in Keuchel from what I've read.
  11. I'd like to see Arraez take a step forward. I'd like to see him sure-up his defense and take some more walks. It'd be nice to see him increase his gap power as well. He was a real catalyst last year, but also hit A LOT of singles. Hitting more doubles will allow him to score more runs which in turn makes him a much more valuable player. As mentioned before, Polanco definitely needs to take a step forward defensively. I always felt nervous when there was a big out needed and the ball was hit to short. Would be nice to cut about a 1/3 of his errors into outs. Be nice to see Rogers figure out what made him so susceptible to his struggles on back to back appearances. Would be even more of a weapon if he was more reliable on day two of pitching.
  12. The site said it was actually an overpay for the Twins. Figure it's at least a good starting point.
  13. How about Rosario, Javier, Gordon, and Thorpe for Caleb Smith from the Marlins. Not an ace, but is a solid pitcher who could probably benefit from playing on a better team. K's 10/9 and controlled for the next four years.
  14. Baseballtradevalues.com says a deal of Balazovic and Larnach for Gray is an equal trade. Maybe throw a couple low minors flyers would make the Rockies pull the trigger. Robbie Ray and Archie Bradley for Nick Gordon, Brent Rooker, Wander Javier, and Matt Wallner. If similar deals were offered and accepted, the Twins would fill their rotation needs and not giving up the top three guys in the minors. Losing Balazovic would hurt as I think he can be a stud, but far from a sure thing. Lanarch could be a very good hitter. Power and speed to the D'backs would be a good return for a FA to be at the end of the year. Edit: Just did Kyle Hendricks for Larnach, Balazovic, and Gordon. Obviously not a exact measure, but at least gives an idea of value.
  15. Larnach, Balazovic, adnd Javier get it done for Hendricks? Kirilloff, Balazovic, Thorpe, Miranda? Berrios Hendricks Odorizzi Pineda SmeltzerDobnak I just don't see Lester improving the rotation by much. Definitely improve the backend of the rotation, but doesn't move anyone they have now down a peg. Darvish actually had a better year than I thought he did Berrios (Darvish) Odorizzi Pineda Lester Smeltzer/Dobnak
  16. I just saw this as well. Hendricks would be the guy of those three that I'd make a move for. Maybe not a top of the line starter, but would be a quality #2/3 for this team. Not a terrible huge commitment in terms of money. 54 million over the next four years. Would beat any deal they're going to make on the FA market.
  17. From the list that @cmoss84 provided, I'd make the Gray trade (2 top 15 and a top 30 and 1 or 2 low A arms) and Robbie Ray trade (2 12-20, flyer) with the idea of extending him 2-3 years. If the asking price is low on Velazquez (20-30 prospect range kinda guy. Similar to the Odorizzi trade), I'd take a flyer on him as well. Berrios Gray Ray Odorizzi Pineda/Velazquez Velazquez can be swing guy/long man out of the pen and provide starts while Pineda is out. If Velazquez flops, you do what you wish him in terms of roster spot. Now that's a rotation that I'd feel comfortable going to the playoffs with if we're expecting similar results from 2019. Maybe it's still not competing with the Yankees, but Gray and Ray can both strike guys out. It'll be interesting to see what happens between now and February.
  18. Sign Bumgarner. Trade for a stud pitcher. Sign a backup catcher. Two bullpen additions via trade or free agency. Maybe sign that Japanese first baseman, and call it a day. B+/A- offseason.
  19. I wonder what it would take to get Jon Gray from the Rockies or Luis Castillo from the Reds or Robbie Ray from the D'Backs. I feel like a trade for a frontline starter is probably more in play than a signing. Try to go after the elite bullpeners out there and trade for two starters. Try to sign Pineda. You can even sign a trial and error guy like Alex Wood or Porcello for the 5th spot. Personally, I like Gray and Ray and signing MLB: Gray (Blazovich/Rooker/Miranda/Jax) Berrios (5.5 mil) Odorizzi (18 mil) Ray (Lanarch/Gordon/Alcala) Pineda/Wood (10 mil) AAA: Graterol Dobnak Smeltzer Poppen Thorpe Not terrible. Not terribly unrealistic either. What packages do you think would bring Ray and Gray to the Twin Cities?
  20. Good for Rocco! Maybe the Twins can use that as an additional selling point for free agents this offseason
  21. That's fine to not spend a ton of money, but it would not be fine to not spend the "prospect money" the Twins possess to upgrade the rotation.
  22. I'd give up all the top prospects the Twins have for a World Series Championship.
  23. In terms of contract, it's probably a safer bet to put a 7 year contract out to a position player rather than a pitcher, but it just doesn't seem like many of those long term contracts work out favorably. I'd rather go high dollar, less years. Offer both 5 yrs/200 mil and see who says yes first. Hey, it's not my money.
  24. Congrats, Royce! Hope he continues to play well for the rest and pushes the Twins hand next season. Or is included in a trade to bring back a bonafide number one starter.
