  1. Yeah, probably.
  2. If anyone believes in Polanco, his value will be much higher after the season, probably even higher the offseason after that. Guys like that only gain value as they perform at the MLB level. Service time isn't really a consideration until it's less than four seasons or so. We talk about trading high all the time. Trading Polanco right now is not trading high, IMO. Same goes for Kepler. I think they both get better.
  3. This is what I don't understand, either. China could topple North Korea in five minutes. Why haven't they done it already? Or is this the event that causes them to do it? While North Korea has thumped their chest for more than a decade, this is the first time they've really shown their teeth. If they keep it up, China might just walk in and settle this for them. I suspect one of the last things China wants is for the US to get involved with boots on the ground. That destabilizes the region, gives the US more leverage in the area, undermines the Chinese/American relationship, and will likely wreak havoc with their economy. They gain nothing and lose a lot by allowing the US to get involved.
  4. Looking forward, he might be the better option and I knew he is currently injured, hence my continual use of Park/Vargas. That response wasn't geared at only you. I've seen calls for Park to join the team across the forum for the past few weeks. I was honestly asking if people didn't realize he was injured.
  5. I said Vargas or Park would be a better option than Palka due to handedness. Obviously, since Park is injured, that leaves Vargas.
  6. I agree on mid-June as a target. That's nearly half a season to right the ship. For me, he can stay if he's hitting somewhere above .600 (not overall for the season, the few weeks preceding mid-to-late June).
  7. There is roughly half a season to be played until we reach July 31st. So many things can happen around baseball that it's kinda pointless to predict who will perform at what level and which teams will need help at which positions.
  8. It was a heated moment where nothing really happened. No suspensions for anybody. Just get on with baseball already.
  9. We haven't even crossed into May and Dozier has raised his OPS from .648 to .713 in the past four games. I'm not worried about Brian Dozier. Will he hit 40 homers again? Eh, I doubt it, but I doubted that going into the season. I'll become more concerned if the weather warms and Dozier continues to hit them to the warning track instead of out of the park.
  10. No, he's a free agent at the end of the season.
  11. Despite the horrific struggles, I think management is handling Buxton correctly. As you said, he seems to be taking better plate appearances lately and both the radio and television crews have mentioned how he's taking extra reps on his frequent days off. We know Buxton can mash AAA pitching. I feel that if he's going to make an adjustment, it needs to be at the MLB level with the best coaches in the Twins organization (or, at least they should be the best coaches in the org). Buxton has crossed 500 MLB PAs. He needs to figure out how to adjust against the best pitching in the world, even if it causes fan agony to watch the process unfold five times a week.
  12. It is, but only because the Cuban Missile Crisis happened so quickly the Doomsday Clock missed it entirely. Still, this is scary stuff.
  13. Yeah. I'd throw Kepler in there, too. I think the Twins' offensive triumvirate may end up being Sano, Kepler, and Polanco. Still iffy on Grossman but damn, he continues to take good plate appearances. Nobody was calling that in 2015.
  14. Dunno. He's had a couple of "errrrr" seasons with few "ohhhhh" seasons mixed in.
  15. Santiago absolutely needs to be traded. He's on an expiring contract, that's a no-brainer. Dozier should probably be traded. I hope there's a better market for him at the deadline (and that he's still performing). I'm a bit more iffy on Santana. I'd certainly try to move him but wouldn't accept just any ol' deal offered to me. The downside is that Santana is getting old. The upside is that he has a ton of time left on his contract. It, like Dozier, is a roll of the dice. But if I get a fair offer, he's gone for sure.
  16. Mediocre has a mostly negative connotation in today's society so I see the point other posters are making... but I use mediocre all the time in a non-pejorative way. The definition of the word is "average". I think Santiago is pretty mediocre. And I don't mean that as an insult, as I very much wanted him and still want him on the team.
  17. My thread about Santana is relevant, seeing how he's the best pitcher in the Twins organization right now. And I believe my post was titled "deserve some credit". That's hardly a ringing endorsement of the old front office, merely a hat tip to acquiring a very good pitcher. And it's not as if the old front office did that very often, something we all acknowledge and talk about ad nauseum. No one here has defended Murphy. He's been terrible. Hicks is long gone and has a good 40 plate appearance streak going. Before that, Hicks was also terrible. My point at large is that you've been intentionally stirring the pot again, hammering at points that don't seem very relevant to the 2017 Twins or the people in charge. You can deflect all you want about how some of the same guys are still in charge but do you honestly believe the Hicks/Murphy trade would happen under Falvey and Levine? If not, what's the point of continuing this line of discussion? Normally, I'd ignore this thread and post but in times like these, we clamp down on the forums because it's easy to let them spiral out of control as posters (and, frankly, we moderators and owners) get frustrated with the play of the team and create vendetta threads/posts. And that's bad for the site.
  18. Good for Pedroia.
  19. Honest question because I see it repeated so often: everyone on this board realizes Byung Ho Park is injured and hasn't played in two weeks, right?
  20. I'm pretty sure this was the Twins' first one run victory.
  21. Dave, I'm going to ask you a question and if I don't like the answer, I'm going to lock this thread. What is the point of continuing this conversation? The guy who made the trade isn't even in the organization anymore. You're harping on a past deal that was the fault of someone who was fired.
  22. Yeah, that trade number is ugly. I'd like to see the 2017 numbers. I'd expect the Twins amateur draft and international signings should look a fair amount better.
  23. While reading the article, I was thinking the same thing. Target Field doesn't feel cramped but it feels much smaller than many other parks I've visited, which leads me to believe it's a bit more vertical in design.
  24. In a vacuum, it's fine to prefer Mejia or Berrios over Santiago. But what happens when one or both of those guys fail? Or Hughes? Or Gibson? Nobody here is on the Santiago bandwagon - at least, I don't think that's the case - we're simply looking at the overall roster, calculating chances of rotation favor, and saying "yeah, okay, I guess Santiago is fine".
  25. Yep. Santiago is mediocre. But mediocrity isn't something you just find on the waiver wire. Unless you luck out, the pickings on the waiver wire are much worse than that.
