  1. If you watch the video in slow motion, it's easy to see how it happens. Machado's foot either grazes the bag and deflects up or Machado realizes his lead foot is going to spike the bag and overreacts, lifting his foot in the air. It's not as if NFL players don't fall down in the backfield, NBA players trip, or MLB players miss easy pop flies on occasion.
  2. Machado tried to catch Pedroia the moment he began to fall and stood over him non-aggressively. That pretty clearly tells me he didn't mean the spike the guy, his foot was just high. You can see him raise his foot as he approaches the bag so as not to catch his lead foot on second and possibly injure himself. Throwing at a guy's head over something that was obviously accidental is bull****.
  3. Polanco was my sleeper this season so I was pretty bullish on the guy. I expected him to hit but I wasn't sure he'd be a competent shortstop. As for Buxton, yeah, if you're including defense the scale slides considerably. If he's a decent hitter with great defense, he's a very good player.
  4. I don't know if it's that extreme. Buxton needs to be acceptable. Good would be better. Excellent is a luxury. With guys like Kepler and Polanco stepping forward this season, the importance of Buxton's bat diminishes a bit. But he can't be bad and certainly not as bad as he has been thus far.
  5. There should be someone out there better than Gibson this offseason. Having back-to-back terrible horrible awful starting pitcher markets seems pretty unlikely. I've never seen such a terrible market for starting pitching as last season.
  6. I hate picking dates so I'll just say this: ASAP Even more ASAP Soon, please
  7. There is no point to paying attention to errors unless the player has an excess of them. So on one side, it tells you nothing. On the other side, it tells you someone is a terrible defender. But there are a dozen stats out there that tell you both sides of the story. So, yeah, mostly worthless.
  8. Kennys Vargas doesn't have a full season of plate appearances in his career.
  9. Tepesch. I'm pretty sure it's a Spanish appetizer.
  10. Dude, you really need to stop cherry-picking stats. And yes, I'm going to keep calling you out when you do it in hopes that, after a half decade of calling out this nonsense, you'll stop doing it. Dozier had a tragic high leverage season in 2016. Before that, he was pretty much the same guy in leverage situations that he was in other situations. Yet you focused on 2016 with absolutely no mention of his previous numbers. Huh, funny thing, that. You dig around until you find a statistic that suits your purposes and then you post it. Change "high leverage" to "RISP" and Dozier, for his career, has been pretty good. If those stats were reversed, there is absolutely no doubt in my mind you'd ignore high leverage and only post RISP numbers. Stop. Trolling. This. Forum.
  11. I'd want two guys simply because if a guy has upside, is in the low minors, but doesn't crack any top 100 lists, he's a pretty big risk. Think Lewis Thorpe or Adam Brett Walker (had he been drafted as prep instead of college) when they were drafted/acquired. I'm not talking about some prep fireballer who cracks top 100 lists right out of the gate.
  12. That is seriously NOT stiff for a controlled pitcher who has been well above average for two seasons. That's a damned reasonable request. And I've never been particularly high on Santana. That's a fair going rate for a pitcher with 1.5 seasons of control plus an option.
  13. I'd try to move him but, as always, it'd require a solid deal to get it done. If Santana keeps rolling as a strong #2, I'd want a 50-ish prospect and two more upside guys from the low minors.
  14. Heh, well this is fun.
  15. I hated the bullpen decisions made over the offseason and said as much multiple times.
  16. Whoa whoa whoa. I said they can't CUT Gibson because they have so few options. I'm all for a demotion to either the pen or Rochester.
  17. Draft and sign better players. Again, Falvey has been in charge for all of 18 games. We all knew this year was going to be frustrating at times because the Twins needs to turn over a large portion of their roster, we simply weren't certain which portion would need to be turned over. Now we're getting a better picture of what that turnover will look like.
  18. What is the point of this post, Mike? You're free-wheeling all over the place in these threads, randomly bringing up past events that have nothing to do with the topic at hand. You're pissed at the recent play. I get it, we're all pissed at the recent play. But you're not contributing to the conversation with these kinds of posts.
  19. I'm not even going to rebut, I just want to bask in the glory of this sentence for a few minutes.
  20. Pretty much. Teams don't just bench their longest-tenured veteran, the hometown boy, and the highest paid guy on the team. So you work around that as realistically as possible.
  21. I'd start scaling back his playing time, starting with a nearly strict platoon against LHP. If Joe is still bad at the end of May, then consider splitting his time against RHP as well. But we haven't even played a month yet. If Joe has a good week, his numbers normalize.
  22. I haven't looked in awhile but IIRC, no service time concerns.
  23. Your Dozier hatred is comical. Just comical. You haven't been able to view the guy objectively since day one, as evidenced by your repeated attacks of his Christianity and ridiculous statements such as "Jorge Polanco is a better hitter today"... which might be true, had you said it today. Except you said that in 2015.
  24. They wouldn't have pitching either way. Some of you are acting as if this De Leon injury came out of nowhere when it was his biggest concern before the trade. He's a 24 year old prospect with a career high innings pitched of 114. If you're getting one or two other really good pieces, maybe you take that guy but acting as if the Twins would be flush with pitching when the headline prospect of the non-deal might have Tommy John surgery is disingenuous and silly.
  25. Because we all know how quickly pitchers return to being 100% effective after Tommy John surgery. It's immediate, right?
