  1. I find most of the hassle of travel to be the actual traveling portion of the trip (get to airport, stand in line, wait for bags, travel to destination from airport). MLB players have it much easier than us commercial airline passengers and get to slide through a lot of that hassle without any real effort on their part (they're taken to the airport, fly on a chartered plane, and are taken to their hotel afterward). I'm not saying it's easy or completely devoid of hassle but it's a rather different experience than what we face when traveling.
  2. Hughes may have control issues but his biggest problem is the loss of 2mph from his fastball after the injury (a drop from consistently 92mph to consistently 89-90mph). It's not really surprising if you see control issues after that point, as you have to pitch around almost every hitter you face and any hitter in MLB has no issues hitting a 90mph fastball. Lynn has sat 91-93mph every season of his career and that's where he sat yesterday as well. Given the guy's abbreviated spring and pitching in quite cold weather yesterday, it's too early to even suggest there's anything different about the guy that indicates he won't pitch somewhere near his career norms.
  3. Lynn has mentioned he likes the cold but that doesn’t mean he wasn’t having grip problems out there yesterday. Overall, a disappointing start in a really boring game but I’m not too worried about it yet.
  4. Nope... the one thing that really confused me this offseason was pretty much everything about the Rule 5 draft.
  5. Target Field is in its ninth season (how’d that happen already?) and this is the first year weather has been a real problem. We’re something like 20+ degrees below the expected norm. It’s fine. We’re seeing a really weird non-spring for the first time since the stadium was built. It will pass.
  6. This winter has been agonizing. More snow today, more snow tomorrow, and it's not supposed to warm up until the middle of April. Ugh... and I'm supposed to spend the next two weeks moving everything out of my basement and into my garage so we can finish the basement and add a couple of rooms. Sigh. Minnesota.
  7. Just a friendly reminder the Pirates have all of four hits in this game and none in this inning.
  8. I’m convinced that Duke guy is a sleeper agent.
  9. Or that he just calls a full 25% of his teammates “caballo”.
  10. He’s awesome. You should look up videos of the guy. He’s a clown.
  11. I'm pretty sure this game is a prime example of why some people hate baseball. What a yawner. Big lead in the first on sloppy pitching, then... *crickets*
  12. Interesting. I’ll flip over to safari for a bit and see if I can replicate it.
  13. Lynn doesn't want to attack the strike zone but he is interested in scaring it a little bit. More of a startle, really.
  14. I can't help but look at Odorizzi and think of Scott Baker, the much lamented and unfairly treated starter... When Scott was rolling with his high fastball and solid strikeout rate, he was an extremely good pitcher. Naturally, he earned the nickname "moonshot" because when things went badly, they really turned south for the guy. But had Baker stayed healthy, I'm fully convinced he would have been a very good pitcher. And modern baseball thinking is kind of going that way with the high fastball that induces mostly quiet contact (and quite a few misses) with the occasional loud contact.
  15. Absolutely. Without referencing it, I'm pretty sure Dozier absolutely mashes fastballs (and I'm sure Sano does as well, as that man can mash everything, including potatoes). In that case, you play off the pitcher and give them a guy who loves the meatball while Buxton is on base.
  16. I only cared when the Twins ran this kind of streak the last time they did it... to start the 2016 season and the team was on its way to an 0-9 record. Stats are fun but only sometimes do they lead you to causation. Right now, the team is rolling. Solo homers are a statistical aberration.
  17. We live in Minnesota and it's the first week of the season. MLB will figure it out. And having been in several retractable dome stadiums, give me Target Field and its unpredictability 101% of the time. Baseball is meant to be played outdoors without glass and steel cages ruining the field of view just because it gets cold for 2-3 weeks to start the season.
  18. Well then, that person was wrong.
  19. For the money involved, did anyone seriously have this opinion? Sure, there were differences of opinion about how Ohtani might shake out against MLB hitting but for the price, one would have to be insane to think it wasn't worth a shot at the guy.
  20. That statement only works when talking about the guys who throw the ball for the Orioles, not the guys who hit the ball for the Orioles. Their offense is decent.
  21. That's a luxury a team can afford when you have seven starters who OPS over .800 on the season. And I just discovered the 2017 Astros had seven guys with an OPS over .800. Holy ****. I knew their offense was very good but that's ridiculous.
  22. Watched The Disaster Artist the other night. If you’ve watched The Room, it’s a must-see film. So much fun to watch and Franco is an amazing Wiseau.
  23. Okay, fine. Someone shoot me a PM as a reminder and I’ll do it when I get home.
