  1. Possibly. It depends on the money required to get a reliever.
  2. No, I think they could have passed on Gonzalez in favor of a reliever. I like Gonzalez but not more than a good bullpen arm.
  3. Now I read the article and woof. "A simple solution: every network should commit now to ensuring 50/50 male/female representation on every show." No. Networks should not give equal representation, they should not give BAD representation. Look at Klobuchar. She got a raw deal that someone like good ol' Joe would never get. THAT'S what needs to change. It's not the time, it's the tone.
  4. Haven't read the article but mostly... yep. The female candidates are far more interesting than the men (other than Pete, who I support fully but want to see in a VP role). Which is why I support Warren with the backup of Klobuchar. The women I see are speaking much more to what I want than any of the men (other than Pete).
  5. This team is 9-6 and they’ve been whooped once. They’ve whooped other teams twice. This is a solid team off to a good start.
  6. Man, it’s so frustrating this front office didn’t pick up one good reliever. The cascading nature of bullpens would turn it from a negative to neutral. And with this offense, you just need neutral at this point.
  7. Then you end up without a combination of Cron, Schoop, and Gonzalez. Let’s not pretend this isn’t a zero sum game. I don’t agree with a lot of this offseason but suggesting “you can just do ALL the things and then be better” isn’t a real solution.
  8. Given the fluidity of relievers, was keeping Pressly any lower risk than acquiring another reliever in the offseason? Sure, there’s price and years but that’s the risk you run with both prospects and free agents, just on opposing sides of the coin.
  9. Also consider me in full agreement. Trading 1.3 seasons of Pressly is great if you get two valuable prospects. But you need to fix the roster hole the following offseason using dollars.
  10. Pretty much that. He isn't throwing it to the backstop or anything but the ball is all around the zone.
  11. So Thornton isn't exactly firing bullets out there tonight.
  12. They’ll likely get it in. I live about three miles from the stadium and rain is down to a 50% chance in the 7pm hour and 30% in the 8pm hour.
  13. I have no issues with the trade and quite liked it at the time. What I didn’t like was an entire offseason of sitting on hands in regards to relievers. So you traded a very good reliever and got a nice return. Rarely a bad play. But replace the guy the following winter, for crying out loud.
  14. See, now this is the range I’m more interested in seeing. I can see $11-12m per for a reliever but can’t get behind $15-16m per.
  15. He barely played last year. I don’t get why people are assuming a 90 OPS+ catcher is now a 40 OPS+ catcher going forward. Sure, it’s possible that’s the case but there’s little evidence to suggest it is.
  16. It took a perfect relay to get Cron. If it takes two perfect throws to get a guy out, you send that runner every damned time. Sometimes, the other team just beats you. That's baseball. But you take the chance and make them beat you.
  17. Which is why I'm much more worried about the bullpen than I was two weeks ago (when I was still worried about the bullpen, just not as much as now). May was supposed to be something of a rock in the seventh or so inning.
  18. That's not how valuation works, man. You can be against the trade because you want the team to win now and that's okay. But to say the team lost the trade with such finality is utter nonsense. You literally just said that a 20 game winner in the future is worth less than a good reliever today. I'm sure you'll feel that way in 2022 if one of these pick-ups is cranking out Kershaw numbers. Because that's a stance rational people have.
  19. You carve out a roster spot for Miguel Sano because of course you do. All the other stuff comes later because of course it does.
  20. Agreeeed. Which is why you don't have your best relievers pinned down to any inning, period.
  21. No, man, it's not. Pressly had about 1.3 years left before free agency and was looking for a pay raise. There's absolutely no way you can say with a straight face that 6+ years of Alcala is a "lost trade no matter how it ends up". The team still has to play in 2021, you know. Now, that doesn't mean it was a good trade, either, but such finality is foolish, especially when it comes to relievers, the most fickle part of a roster.
  22. After almost every plate appearance this season, I’m more convinced the Buxton we were sold is actually real.
  23. It’s hard not to be a little concerned about May at this point. He was supposed to be one of the stable relievers.
  24. I'm sure it's hard to figure out if you have the strength to go six innings until you try to go six innings. It doesn't help that Gibson has been very good through four innings in two of his three starts. Hard to get a read on where a guy is physically if you don't push him into situations where he begins to weaken.
