  1. I wouldn't give up Graterol for both (again, unless the FO has a much lower take on him than most media outlets). If either Smith or MadBum had a year remaining, I could see Graterol+ but Brusdar is a 50-ish prospect on several prospects lists this season. Given the plummeting price of rental players, it shouldn't take a headliner like that to get a decent pitcher or two.
  2. We're in the process of a complete redesign and upgrade. One of the things on my list is to fix/update the RTE's awful formatting. But we're still probably six months out from launch. It's a massive project.
  3. And then this happened. https://www.npr.org/2019/06/16/733191189/phoenix-mayor-apologies-after-video-of-police-drawing-gun-on-family-over-stolen-
  4. AFAIK, there's no reason he shouldn't be available today. He didn't pitch for eight days, after all.
  5. That's a really good point. Good teams will use that 26th to add productive depth to the roster but I suspect terrible teams like the Royals and Marlins will use that roster spot to store Rule V players. So yeah, I think the Rule V draft will be a lot more hectic and meaningful going forward. Here's a list of the rule changes, BTW. https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2019/03/14/mlb-new-rule-changes-roster-3-batter-minimum/3157226002/
  6. I'm iffy on him being ready next year but it's a possibility. Either way, the larger problem still exists in 2021, as Perez comes off the books that year.
  7. Given the Twins' lack of starting depth past 2019, I'm loathe to let go of Graterol unless the front office sees something in him they don't like. The Twins need at least three starters in 2020, as they only have Berrios and Perez under contract. That's a lot of starting pitching to find in a single offseason.
  8. I really don't want to argue about it. All I'm saying is that if the Twins decide to target a starter this deadline, I hope they are able to do what the Astros did and target a veteran that isn't being tapped for 100% of his potential (because it's basically impossible to argue with Verlander's numbers since going to Houston; he's back into the debate of "best pitcher in baseball' and no longer only a "really good pitcher".
  9. Was editing my post to add this: Let's not forget that Verlander was a 34 year old "good" pitcher back in 2017. He wasn't the dominant force he was in his prime or is today. The Astros worked some of their trademark magic on him after the trade. Verlander's ERA leadup to the trade in Detroit (2014-2017): 4.54, 3.38, 3.04, 3.82 Verlander's ERA in Houston, a bandbox of a park (2017-present): 1.06, 2.52, 2.41
  10. Marcus Stroman isn't far off where Verlander was in Detroit two years ago. Let's not forget that Verlander was a 34 year old "good" pitcher back in 2017. He wasn't the dominant force he was in his prime or is today. The Astros worked some of their trademark magic on him after the trade.
  11. Bingo. Ewen can blame "rhetoric" on the Democrats all he wants but the GOP appears to be the party that wants to spout rhetoric and do nothing. They had all the opportunity in the world to pass whatever legislation they pleased to fix this situation, yet we got all of nothing done about it. By the way, I don't include Trump in this statement. As much as I dislike the man and his policy on this issue, I believe he's a "do-er" and wants to accomplish goals. The rest of the GOP? Nah, not so much. Their primary goal seems to be, ya know... rhetoric. Enflame the masses with righteous indignation, and keep stoking that fire while accomplishing absolutely nothing.
  12. Good god, what the hell is that guy eating this season? Those are Kershaw-in-his-prime numbers.
  13. If there's an ace available, the Twins need to explore that opportunity but at the potential cost of Lewis+, I'm hesitant to throw in all the chips on a pitcher like that. Still, the conversation should happen. Thankfully, the Twins' biggest weakness is the bullpen, which also costs the least prospect capital to fix. If they get one very good reliever, I'll be satisfied... but the target should be a very good reliever and a good reliever, in my opinion.
  14. It was a close game and Rogers hadn't pitched in eight (!) days. It was a smart move to bring in Taylor. He needed game action to stay fresh and the game was close enough that bringing in your best reliever for the ninth made sense. The Twins are playing the Royals, not the Yankees. Odorizzi starts today. There's a good chance Rogers isn't even needed for the rest of the series and I'd much rather see Rogers pitch a meaningful ninth last night than to pitch the eighth in an 8-3 game tomorrow just because his arm needs to throw an inning.
  15. Trump had a full two years of a GOP White House, a GOP Senate, and a GOP House. Why wasn't something done during those 24 months of single-party control of our government? By comparison, the Democrats have held control of ONE chamber of ONE branch of government for all of five months now.
  16. Despite general board consternation over Gibson, probably because of his E.coli induced rough start, Kyle has quietly put up a better 2019 than 2018. His K% is up 3.1%. His BB% is down a whopping 4.1%. His FIP is down 0.28.
  17. This is literally the exact article I’ve been waiting a month to see. Stellar work, Tom.
  18. I’ve been to KC a few times recently. There are lots of buildings. And at least six of them are occupied.
  19. He slid into the booth headfirst, five minutes late.
  20. Any MiLB player who already has an option burned certainly appreciates the shuttle. They get paid loads more, get to talk to actual MLB players, and in Romero's case, it's barely a disruption. I don't see it being a big impediment. It might be different if the Twins were treating Romero like they did Alex Meyer; call him up as a starter, bench him for ten days, let him get his face beat in, demote him. For a reliever, it's different. You're used to pitching back-to-back or not pitching for three days. Does it really matter where you pitch?
  21. Target Field will be packed this weekend. That's a good thing to hear.
  22. http://blog.joytunes.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/titanic-band-plays-on.jpg
  23. I think it's easy to go on autopilot and assume the ALE is the best division "every year" instead of "lots of years".
  24. Minnesota has scored a whopping 129 more runs than Cleveland, good for an additional 1.92 runs per game.
  25. I have to admit I laughed.
