  1. They head to KC tomorrow, actually. ... No, you're right. While they technically play the Royals tomorrow, that can and should be considered a day off.
  2. I've been screaming for this to happen for years now. A standup double. From a bunt. I knew it would happen but MLB players are irrationally resistant to trying it. It's kind of infuriating, really. This is perhaps the easiest bunt in the world to attempt. All you need to do is keep the ball fair and bunt as hard as you frickin' can. No soft hands needed; in fact, you want the opposite. Doesn't matter if it's on the ground or in the air, just get the damned ball 100+ feet and you're standing on second base. https://twitter.com/Cardinals/status/1140797879390527488?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1140797879390527488&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fdeadspin.com%2Fajax%2Finset%2Fiframe%3Fid%3Dtwitter-1140797879390527488%26autosize%3D1
  3. This title is underselling the situation quite a bit. It should read: Michael Pineda Provides Upgrade Over Recent Second Starters
  4. While I didn't check every team in baseball, I checked enough to be confident to say that the 2019 Twins are the only team in MLB without a three game losing streak. That's... amazing. This team is approaching the halfway mark of the season and they haven't dropped three games in a row yet. Another fun fact: the 2001 Mariners (116-46) didn't drop three in a row until September 22nd.
  5. WPA of -0.1: Sano -.433 By the way, it should be noted that this is really hard to do as a position player. That's starting pitcher disaster start kind of WPA.
  6. Yikes. Even given the team's depth, they kinda need Gonzalez right now with Adrianza out and Sano windmilling at the plate like a drunken ballerina.
  7. I'm against cash reparations but guilt doesn't have anything to do with it in my eyes. This is about a community that massively underperforms white Americans in every facet of life. When you boil that down to its essence, you are literally left with two options: 1. So much damage was done and is being done to the black community that they are incapable of pulling themselves out of that hole by themselves 2. Black people are inferior to white people It's obviously the former, so let's do something about it. Giving poor people cash is a bad solution, as poor people often lack the skills and knowledge to effectively manage money, especially a big pile of it given in one go. So how do we invest in black communities through education, business loans, infrastructure, etc? And how much would it take to get things back on track and do we have the collective stomach to see this through over decades, not years? Because that's what it will take. This isn't a "one and done" situation, it will take generations of concentrated effort.
  8. Yeah, pretty much this. His plate appearances last night were brutal.
  9. Yeah, I don't really know what makes Buxton hit the wall like he does. Is the guy part bird or something?
  10. Without a doubt it's a bigger concern because it's Byron "Mr Glass" Buxton... but I think he might be a little tougher with all that extra bulk this season. After that spectacular wall crash a few weeks ago, I fully expected him to go on the IL until 2022... but he was back in the lineup a day or two later. That wall hit was bad.
  11. This is literally what I feared would happen when I saw he was still striking out a ton. To quote myself from June 4th in the "Need to take a hard look at Sano" thread: "We've seen this with Sano before; a hot start where pitchers underestimate him, then an adjustment period where Miguel's numbers start to decline as pitchers realize he'll swing and miss at a ton of borderline pitches. We'll see if that happens again this season soon enough. I hope it doesn't but given his miss rate, I don't have a lot of confidence."
  12. 53 pages of posts! This has to be the longest game thread in TD history, for sure.
  13. Hey! I agree with Chief on a prospect take!
  14. He's an oft-injured third baseman with questionable defense who cranks homers when he manages to stay on an MLB roster. He's not Mauer. Not even close.
  15. Nah, let's not do that tonight (though your point is entirely valid).
  16. *groan* Let me know how Sano does in five years. Or ten. Or after he has a career-changing concussion. Or if he ever starts catching.
  17. Garver had an unacceptable brain freeze but it's not as if we see that from him on a regular basis. The guy has worked incredibly hard to improve on every facet of his game this season and has shockingly become one of the most valuable players in the game. Rosario is a wild card in a slump. He is who he is but you can roll him out there for 150 games and know he'll be good. He's Vlad Lite and that's what he is, take it or leave it. Sano is neither one of those players.
  18. Why Sano’s strikeouts don’t matter.
  19. I think of him as more of a three in the mold of a Garza or Baker. Get him in the right year and he’s a two but generally, not to be relied upon year over year as reliably well above average (or healthy). Whereas I see Berrios as a strong two (and Radke in his prime as well). To each their own.
