Astros Inquiring On First Basemen

They really only need a placeholder at the position- the Twins have place-holding 1B-men to spare- at least 2 guys (one out of options) who deserve a fair shot at a season's worth of PAs. And the Twins could really use Castro as their 2nd backstop. It would no doubt cost you an additional prospect, but not a top ten guy. I hope the Twins are on speed-dial.

I doubt they would be interested in Parmalee. Even if they were you could not expect much at all in return.

I can't see any team having any interest in Parmelee, they could find several better AAAA options for free.

Agreed, by themselves, neither spare Twins First Baseman would bring much. But it's important to note how truly awful the Astros are at the position. The starter, Guzman, is a journeyman on his 5th club and nearing 30 with only 252 MLB ABs and poor defensively (and he's been even more awful at the plate this spring), and the reigning Strikeout King, Chris Carter, is primarily the DH for very good reasons, defensively speaking. They are apparently holding off on bringing up their heir apparent at the position for now, so spending bigger money on a more established First Baseman to this point, is not considered a good option for the short-term.

 

If the Astros are calling around and would be interested in considering a low risk, minimum wage 1B (they don't have a LH hitting option), who might surprise to the upside for this year and next, plus perhaps a MLB RP and/or an 11-20 prospect, I'd like to see what it costs to get their Catcher.

As a starting point this is so offensively low of an .offer for an all star catcher I doubt that it could even start a conversation.
