John Bonnes Site Manager Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 Lord, but do I want to take a series from the Yankees at Yankee stadium. I don't think I'm overstating things when I say that Twins fans need this. We judge our team way too much by how they compare to the Yankees. Taking three of four changes the vibe in this city a bunch.

The Twins have played so poorly against the Yankees and had so much bad luck against them - for so long - they've become a symbol of the Twins' shortcommings.... To win this series would be a definite confidence boost to the team and it's fans... Hey, if you can beat the Yankees, you can beat anybody... Right?
luckylager Verified Member Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 Does anyone know when the Twins last won a series in NY?
Tuba Verified Member Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 If we win this game, just unfurl the mission accomplished banner and call it a season
Game163 Provisional Member Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 Does anyone know when the Twins last won a series in NY?May 8th-10th, 2001
bulldogguy Provisional Member Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 God that is a long time...here's hoping to a series win, but I can't get my hopes up or I will crash and burn AGAIN with this club. At least its not a playoff series...seen too many of those games where we fall apart to this team.
Yoshii Verified Member Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 Phil Hughes might just be the man to allow it to happen.
Scheherezade Provisional Member Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 ^ Yeah. I definitely think Swarzak can outpace Hughes at this point in time.
mhanson93 Verified Member Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 Com'n Swarzak! Please pitch an inning without giving all the runs back!
one_eyed_jack Verified Member Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 To quote a Yankee great, it's deja vu all over again.
mhanson93 Verified Member Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 #$ it Swarzak! I knew that was too much to ask!
stringer bell Verified Member Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 We have seen this movie before, no? I hope this settles down and doesn't end up 18-16.
striker_86 Provisional Member Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 We could score 12 today and it wont be enough.....
asmus_ndsu Provisional Member Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 Wow another HR, well let's play predict the final score of this one... Ima say twins 12 Yankees 11 just because I want to play the blind optimist
Scheherezade Provisional Member Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 Gotta keep that ball DOWN.
Guest USAFChief Guests Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 It would be quite OK with me if Alexi Casilla never again took the field as a Minnesota Twin.
twinzgrl Provisional Member Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 Where were the Twins scouts when Curtis Granderson was playing for the Mankato Mashers (now MoonDogs) of the North Woods League a few short years ago?

striker_86 Provisional Member Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 granderson is killing us. Good thing Doumit is having a nice game to keep things close!
DrJubal Verified Member Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 I know it's giving up an out (which we did anyway with the strikeout) - but I think I woulda bunted Valencia to third there after the leadoff double in the 8th... Sigh.

one_eyed_jack Verified Member Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 I dunno. Can you rely on Parmalee to lay down a good bunt? He had 2 doubles in the game, I've got no problem letting him swing away there. 2-13 with RISP, lot's of wasted opportunities. One more clutch hit and they could haven take this series. Hard to overcome your starter getting shelled almost every night. Bullpen deserves some props for the last couple of games.
John Bonnes Site Manager Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 I don't know if I want Parmelee bunting in that situation (or any situation), but it is REALLY disappointing that he didn't move the runner over there. Incidentally, the Twins chances of winning that game dropped 10% with that at bat. It was a huge at bat, obviously.
DrJubal Verified Member Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 Can you rely on Parmalee to lay down a good bunt?C'mon - major league ballplayer. Doesn't have to be a GOOD bunt - just a decent bunt. I hate bunting, I think its ALMOST always the wrong call - but I think I would've there.

I think if it had been a lesser pitcher, which is almost every other reliever in the league, I'd want him swinging to try and move the runner over and get on base if possible. But, in this case, I'd have asked for the bunt.
