Bert's comments/ Unwritten rules.

Now you are just ignoring logic and the arguments made by the other side of this debate . If the worst team in baseball was up 7-1 on the best team the Yankees ever assembled, they would show the same courtesy. I find it ironic that anyone would find fault in showing respect for your opponent but times have changed. We are now a me instead of we oriented society.

Teach that to kids and amateurs. Professionals need to be exactly that: professional. Virtually every unwritten rule is there so whiny losers feel justified in being whiny losers.

The dead ball era has been gone for a long time, most teams have the capability of putting up 6 runs over the course of a couple of innings. Some unwritten rules need to go the way of the dodo, this is one of them.

If I threw an object as hard as I could with the sole intention of hitting somebody I would be arrested and charged with Assault and Battery. Unwritten rules or not there is no excuse for this behavior to exist in baseball. An opponent did something you don't like? Welcome to life. Suck it up and move on.

I don't completely disagree with unwritten rules and I feel that being up by 6 in the 8th is too close. There is a difference between showboating/being a jerk and playing hard. I see no issue with stepping on the opponents neck. Maybe that is what the team has been lacking. 10-1? Maybe. It is a judgement call but a lot of times I feel there is too much drama surrounding this. Is it the act that bothered your or the fact that you were getting your butt kicked? Maybe some folks should just worry about the latter.

I didn't see the game so I can't comment on the specifics. Gladden says quite often to look at the scoreboard and it will tell you want to do. The question is where do you draw the line. How many runs do you you need to be up and in what inning is it considered unsportsman like?

Personally, I don't mind some of the unwritten rules. What I don't like is how umps issue a warning after one batter gets hit.

Sportsmanship being just a losers lament? That is probably what is wrong with society as a whole. If one cannot respect people at a basic human level, why be around them? The game is emotional, when you lose, it sucks. Having someone lord over you their prowess and rubbing your face in it is like mid-evil war times when "barbarian" armies raped women of a village after they conquered it. What gives them the right?

The game is monitored by its own and should be. With that being said please understand what I mean by "own". "Own" as in own team. Coaches and teammates should get after players that act the wrong way, not opponents. Throwing hard and in is fine, if it isn't done in retaliation but as strategy to get that specific player out. You don't try to hit or to harm. The game is supposed to be a gentleman's game. Unwritten rules are that way because they should be policed within, not by opposing fans or players.

Maybe that was more like four cents, my piece.
