they’ll probably end up one hot week away in the course of a 6 month season from being in the playoffs or at least still in the hunt in this final week. Even just an extra win a month…that’s not far off imo.

The Twins lost 4 or more games in a calendar week 7 times (one of them was 5), so even if the week they lost 5, they won all those games (against the Royals and Brewers) they would likely be 1.5 out with three to play of course they would be 4th in the wild card standings not 7th, with the White Sox playing KC today and the Rockies this weekend and Cleveland playing KC this weekend it is very unlikely one hot week got them in the playoffs, still in the hunt, but a hot week would have meant not losing any games that week.

Probably best to do it for the other teams as well, it won't make you feel as bad, because this happens to all teams, and to the benefit of the Twins multiple times.

For sure. I know the Orioles, for example, lost a bunch of winnable games too.

I am struggling with this. For Bell’s 92 RBI effort while mostly at DH he has a 105 wRC+ and 0.6 fWAR. For Buxton’s 46 RBI season while playing slightly below average CF he has a wRC+ of 128 and 2.6 fWAR.

I think one of the reasons why is that there have been quite a number of occasions when Bell goes up with RISP just looking to dink the ball somewhere (like yesterday’s 2 out RBI). Buxton goes up looking to rip the cover off the ball with every swing. This shows up in the stat line as Buxton being the more valuable hitter but it is RBIs that win games. 92 RBI is 16th in MLB. I just find it difficult to comprehend how being a near 100 RBI player is just slightly better than replacement level.

Bell is a cold-hearted killer.  Buxton just loves to wave at the outside breaking balls, on his way to collecting his fat, not tradeable, no expectations, pay check.  Bell was way worth more than Buxton.

This year!  Two outs runners on first and third, bottom of the ninth, in July, or August, who do you want up.  Bell puts the ball in play, no matter where it is pitched, Buxton either looks at the heavens, or goes back to the dugout with his ....

Ironically, his best at-bat of the season might've been the walk he took just before Kody's ultimate grand slam. He battled.

JB did strike out at a surprisingly high rate during the first part of the season. But, yeah, a dependable player this year, even if the production was inconsistent. Probably never sat out more than two games in a row. Curious to see if he comes back.
