Reminds me of the story of the new priest who followed his mentors advice to take some wine to brace himself up for the service. Leaving him in, continuing to leave him in, because of the oh so overworked bullpen. As soon as the two home runs and double were hit, they went into protection mode. Literally. They said 'I don't know how anyone can criticize this decision with the way the bullpen has been overworked.' They aren't necessarily wrong, but I find it funny they have to jump to Gardy and Ryan's defense all the frakin time. It's like a preemptive strike at everyone who dares question Ryan and Gardy.

Yeah, I know. I guess it's hard to stay positive when this happens repeatedly. He did well through 5. The 6th inning stuff is getting very old.

Well does the TB dugout have internet acces? Because Baseball Reference could tell him that prior to this blow up, Pelfrey's 6th inning ERA is 15.26 and batters have a 1.177 OPS against him.

 

Edit: Of course the dugout doesn't have internet access, they still use phones that have cords attatched to them. Still, seems like something you might research pre-game.

I'm starting to wonder if this is getting into his head. I'm sure he knows his 6th inning stats as well as anybody. Is this becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy?
