Cory Engelhardt Verified Member Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 Another big name trade today. Isaac Paredes (he is a stud, and probably now the replacement for Bregman) along with their first round pick from 2024 Cam Smith (Jamie Cameron loved him pre draft) and pitcher Hayden Wisneski go to Houston. Really solid return for one year of Tucker, who is a great player in his own right. Mike Sixel 1
tony&rodney Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2024 Posted December 14, 2024 Seems like the Cubs just put a ton of confidence in Matt Shaw. This is a great trade if you view that Shaw is displacing both Paredes and Smith, who are very good ball players. The Cubs also have Cade Horton waiting his turn. Good trade for Houston as well. I like this deal all around. Cory Engelhardt 1
Doctor Gast Verified Member Posted December 14, 2024 Posted December 14, 2024 Cubs also signed Carson Kelly (C) which limits our options
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2025 Posted January 10, 2025 This relationship is off to a superb start… Good lord Cubs. Figure it out! Cory Engelhardt 1

Be interesting to see if they lock him in long term before the hearing. I'd have to think you trade for a guy like that with the hope of locking him up for 6 to 10 years before the season, right? I have to think Tucker saw the deal that Soto got and has a goal of making it to free agency, right? I guess we'll see.

That'd be my thought if I were him, but the Cubs can't be thinking they're WS contenders this year. Who knows. If I'm a Cubs fan I'd certainly be hoping we didn't just trade our most recent first round pick, 3 years of Paredes, and a pitcher for 1 year of Tucker. Cory Engelhardt 1

I'd argue their lineup is very much WS caliber. They need more pitching for sure, so we'll see how the rest of their offseason unfolds. chpettit19 1
