Gardy Micro-managing

Recommended Posts

Anyone else surprised that Denard Spans comments from last weekend on Gardy went 'under the radar'? What do you think he meant??

Span was asked for difference between ex mgr Gardy & Davy Johnson & Denard said "He lets us just play the game, I'll be honest. It's definitely different than what I'm used to, not micromanaging, just lets you do whatever. As long as you're ready to play at seven o'clock, that's all he cares about."

I hadn't heard this quote before. Davey Johnson's method of managing isn't exactly any better than Gardy's. The Nationals are falling well short of expectations and Span's numbers aren't really up to par with the last few years either.

Too vague. Does "micro-managing" mean, show up 2 hours before the game to get batting practice in? Or does it mean, I want you playing 3 and half steps deeper in CF than you might be comfortable with? Or something else?

Meh. If you are winning, then it is considered having an "old school" approach and focusing on the "little things." When you are losing, it is called "micro-managing."

Different management styles are neither right or wrong, and, no matter the style, their effectiveness comes down to wins in the end.

Considering Denard is on pace to statistically fall well below last year at the plate, maybe Gardy's way works better for him.

Or he could be experiencing what many hitters do when they change leagues...a drop off for the first year while they learn the new pitchers.

It didn't really sound like criticisms against Gardenhire just a comment on the different approach between the two managers.

no question, but wonder what things Gardy harps on

By contrast, Mastroianni said positive things about the Twins' approach versus the Blue Jays. Players say all kinds of things, generally positive, about the new team they are on.

Kevin Slowey has been saying how great an organization the Marlins are also!!!
