I do not see anyone on the 40 man I am willing to pass through waivers right now to go with Hand. He used to be a top guy, but over recent years he is more so a vet that is getting by on smoke and mirrors and very will may blow up at any moment. They can put players on the 60 day injured list as of a few days ago.

But will they actually cut him or will they continue to hope beyond hope that mediocre pitchers will somehow magically improve?

Gotta have decent stuff but Hand’s attraction is his experience & what he has between the ears! Pagan - López - Hand in the 8th with RH, LH, RH batters coming up. Who do you pick? Not close for me - sign Hand!! The Twins aren't pitching Pagan in teh 8th. Why are you typing this?

That's why they are suggesting a minor league deal, so the Twins don't have to make that decision. m-i-e-n-t-k-i-e-w-i-c-z and chpettit19 2

Rosterman Verified Member Posted February 23, 2023 Posted February 23, 2023 I'm not sure Alcala will be ready to go north with the Twins. Might need some extra time to face live bats. You can put Megill and Pagan into competition with someone like Henriquez for a spot (not to mention Winder). Hand is a lefty. It frees up Thielbar and Moran to pitch multi-innings if needed, something both did in 2022. I think it all boils down to cost. The Twins still have Ortega in St. Paul after his 40-man removal. They have signed a substantial number of minor league free agents, including a couple of lefties. Mostly for depth, but right now St. Paul has 17 pitchers on theiir roster with 7 from the 40-man needing space.
