No Twins Players Drafted in Rule 5 - Twins pass on their pick

Just because "they didn't see anyone" doesn't mean "they" are right.  You keep saying we'd have to waive guys to make Rule 5 picks.  Not true at all.  Just need to take them off the 40 man.  Or not add them to the 40 man.  Again, shouldn't be a problem.  Unless our fringe guys are so much better than other teams' fringe guys that ours will get taken and theirs ain't worth taking.  IF that were the case, we'd be celebrating another World Series win or ten.

And if you think "they" are wrong then make a stand and tell us why they're wrong. Give a name. Not just a quote about missing shots you don't take. They may have been wrong, but you've provided literally 0 evidence as to why we should think they were wrong.

Now you're trying to go back to before they added guys to the 40-man? Fine. They added Julien, Canterino, and Headrick. I won't even ask you to find someone better than them in the rule 5 cuz you clearly don't even know who they could've picked, so I'll just take those 3 off the 40-man. They'd be at 36 guys in this hypothetical. They need at least 1 catcher. So 37 guys. I think pretty much everyone wants them to add an arm (pen or starter). 38 guys. Right handed outfield bat seems to be almost universally desired by fans. 39 guys. Some want Correa, others don't. So we won't even count him. Basically every team carries 3 catchers on the 40-man but we'll even ignore that for the Twins. So they're at 39 guys. Now the choice is to add Julien or pick someone in the rule 5. I don't think you'll find a single fan who follows Twins prospects who would've suggested losing Julien to pick someone in the rule 5. So now they're at 40.

And, fyi, taking someone off the 40-man automatically puts them on irrevocable waivers. So, yes, they'd have to waive someone to make room. Would you prefer I say DFA someone? However you want it worded it's the same thing. They will need to take people off the 40-man if they plan to add more than 1 player. There's no debating that. They're already going to have to do that. There are multiple people on the 40-man right now that are going to be passed through waivers this offseason so the Twins can bring in another catcher, etc. Or there's going to be trades. Either way guys are coming off the 40-man roster this offseason. There's literally no other choice. The Twins took many guys off the 40-man at the beginning of the offseason and Hamilton, Palacios, and Cave at least were taken by other teams. That's just off the top of my head. I may be forgetting a guy or 2. When you take someone off the 40-man they're put on waivers and any team can claim them and you have no way of stopping it. Maybe that's news to you, but taking a guy off the 40-man is a risk and "fringe" players get claimed over and over while bouncing between teams until someone just keeps them on their 40-man.

You clearly have no actual reasoning for your stance other than Santana and Pressly turned out well. You have no name to put forth for drafting, just this vague idea of "taking a shot." So I'm done with this back and forth. I'm more than happy to debate real stances with anyone, but "just take a shot" isn't a real stance when you refuse to include the reality of 40-man decisions that would be tied to said "shot." They didn't pick anyone. Half the league didn't pick anyone. Their fringe guys are already set to be removed from the 40-man for MLB free agents. You can't name any specific players you'd draft or remove. You falsely claim that guys wouldn't have to be waived from the 40-man. This is no longer a back and forth of ideas, so I'm done with it. I'm sorry the Twins didn't take your unspecified "shot."

Please reread the Rule 5 draft rules and the waiver rules when dropping someone from the 40 man roster. The above statement is wrong unless your prediction is that the Twins won't add a single player to the roster this off season. Most people think Headrick was the closest decision to be added to the 40 man so you should have named someone to replace him. Other than that, chpettit19 has clearly won this debate.

You're right.  Half the league didn't pick anyone.  That doesn't make half the league smart.  96% of the league won't win the World Series next year.

And we know with 100% certainty that EVERY person currently on the 40 man will end up being a star.  GUARANTEED.  Should set us up nicely to win the next eight World Series.  Think I'll start a World Series parade supply business.
