Joe Ryan Takes Start for Team USA

Newly acquired Joe Ryan gets the start for Team USA as they play South Korea in the Olympic Semifinal. Win and they move into the Gold Medal Game and a rematch with Japan for the Gold, who they lost by 1 in extra innings in the Knockout Round for their only Olympic defeat. Lose and they play for the Bronze against Dominican Republic. The game starts at 5AM CT Thursday morning, August 5, and can be seen on USA Network (242 DirecTV), and probably some other streaming options.

WHAT?!

Joe goes 4.1 innings. Leaves game up 2-1 with runners on first and second with one out. Pitched with aplomb until his velocity dropped to under 90 in the 5th and started getting hit. A nifty 4-6-3 double play ends the inning as the relief, Ryder Ryan allows none of the 2 inherited runners to score. Delightful.

Team USA goes on to win, 7-2, and will play Japan for the Gold.

These games are really fun to watch. The kind of rag tag team made up of prospects, unsigned older free agents, and a couple of Americans that are now playing for Japanese or Korean teams....... is going for the gold.  Masahiro Tanaka is starting for Japan. Going to have to step up to win it.
