The position player gets a fine, the pitcher gets a fine plus one-day suspension, the latter consequence having no real teeth since he likely wasn't going to pitch on consecutive days anyway. But the league gets the message across that physically instigating by walking toward the player is qualitatively worse than an inappropriate smile. It's all fine. I hope it's the end of it. It's dumb.

What you call poor sportsmanship, I call having a good time. It’s only showing up the opponent if everyone takes it too seriously.

Every other major sport has more exuberant celebrations than baseball and no one has a problem with it. Only baseball has a stick up its ass about this kind of thing.

I acknowledge your point of view. Now tell me this: where is the line between poor sportsmanship and having a good time? What should and what should not be taken seriously, and how seriously is too seriously to take something? It comes down to just how far up one's ass the stick should be. It seems we have different opinions about that.

Baseball is not every other major sport. The NFL allows silly TD celebrations, but it should be pointed out that none of those include in-your-face confrontations with the defense, and there is a penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct. The NBA is much faster-moving than baseball and celebrations are usually limited by the need to start playing defense immediately after a score. And then there's hockey. Should baseball be like hockey in that fighting when there's a disagreement is an integral part of the sport? That's one of the reasons I no longer care to follow the NHL.

With freer expressions of celebration will come stronger reactions, more confrontations, and more fighting. As for me I would like to watch the sport I love without such crap.

We've had numerous discussions of this over the years. As always, since you are speaking to a larger point, and no longer about Romo vs Lindor, perhaps start a separate discussion regarding 'respect' vs 'personality' issues in the 'Other Baseball' forum. Thanks.

Agreed. I was just pointing out that one could like and endorse the "fun" Romo brings, while also understanding the league's stance on what happened Friday night. But re-reading it, I think I misunderstood Brock...

FTR, I have no issues with the suspension. It’s a slap on the wrist, which is probably appropriate. Following someone down the line while chirping is a bit much.
