The rubber meets the road

I know that the next 12 games have been highlighted in other threads but I believe their importance merits a dedicated thread. Twins can probably split or worse against Red Sox, Indians (6 games) and Nationals and still try to coast into the playoffs against White Sox, Royals and Tigers to wrap up the season.

Truth is they need to do better than that if they expect to do much in the playoffs. The Nationals series is kind of like a consolation World Series as they are trying to catch the Braves is the NL East and are a leg up in the WC. Playing at Boston is always a playoff atmosphere and the 6 against the Indians need no explanation.

Playing these 12 games that really matter in consecutive September days is a regular season baseball fan's dream.

I agree that we may learn something from these coming series against tough teams. Still, we could see the Twins flop in the next 12 games, and yet win the World Series. Conversely they could ace these games, and the wins won't count for anything when everyone's record is wiped to 0-0 again in the post-season. Bottom line: I will enjoy the heck out of these games, if there is enjoyment to be had, but not let the highs get too high nor the lows get too low. I just don't think a baseball season, even during a pennant drive, allows for much different than that, except at peril for one's sanity.
