Personally I would rather have three $11,000,000 per year free agent, flame throwing, relievers, whose motto is "Nobody walks but the fans into Target Field". But then I'm fiscally conservative and I like to spread out the risk, rather than lump it all into one 36 year old pitcher. (By the way, we all understand that Mauer's signing was different...younger, a Minnesota boy, the face of the franchise for years...they had to sign him) It is how insurance companies were first formed, by looking at the statistics of wooden sailing ships successfully sailing to and from the New World. It was a dangerous journey. So the ship owners combined forces and agreed that if one ship sank, the others would share the cost of the loss.  Give me three more good youngish relievers and if one fails, maybe the other two will be successful. I don't want to put a fourth of my assets into one 36 year old wooden ship.

Just no to Greinke, too much $$$ and I remember all the "complaining" on our local hero as to his contract.

Give me younger and up and coming pitchers over a guy that is on his downside.

Doctor Wu pointed out what I was going to say: He loves to bat.

In fact, he is currently sporting a slash line of .271/.300/.583 (.883).

I'd love to have him pitching for us but consider the odds of that at less than 2%.

And I’ll wager his manager cringes every time he gets on base. One bad turn around a base, $30 mil down the drain.

Arizona is a really good team, I kind of think this trade talk is just to lay the groundwork for an off season Greinke trade. They'll have no idea of what they can afford in terms of payroll if they don't know how much of his contract they have to eat but they might get a good feel for it if they have dialogue with teams now.

But if it is NOT a ploy, I'd have interest in Greinke. Perhaps the Twins could convince him to drop his no-trade request by convincing him that they will ALSO be getting additional big time talent, either in the rotation or the pen, which would not be terribly difficult to obtain considering Greinke's huge contract will spare the Twins most of their prospect equity.
