Fun discussions about Goldy and Thor-both are unlikely, but as James Q. Carey once said, "So you're saying there's a chance!"

 

Having an IPA and doing some pondering-looking at our division, is now the time to go all-in, even if we might not have a team perfectly ready to do so?

 

Cleveland-maybe a bit weaker now. Will be without Brantley (although they will probably sign a FA OF). Do they trade one of their aces? Does their bullpen get weaker, and pitching staff in general? 

 

KC-rebuilding for a year or two. Chi-rebuilding for a year or two. Det-awful. 

 

That being said, would you empty our assets to get BOTH Goldy and Thor, if we are able to extend Goldy?

Let's say it takes this combination of players to get both...would you do it?

 

Sano, Kiriloff, Lewis, Rooker, Gordon, Gonsalves and Romero. 

 

Let's say we sign Daniel Murphy, Cruz and Marwin Gonzalez in FA (I know, seems a bit much, but again, we are going all in for a 3 year window-3 year/40 million contracts for Marwin and Murphy, and 1 year/18 million deal for Cruz). Here's a sample lineup:

What better time than now to go for it? Chicago and Detroit aren't going to suck forever... There's always time to build for the future in the future.

I think the keyword that has been used is sustainable.  Twins are a lot farther than 1 - 3 players away.  To get where some of you want to go would just totally empty the farm system.  You might get 2 - 3 playoff chances, but Twins are a long way from Boston and the Astros.  Play for the division this year might be done without significant loss of the farm system.  But to get a team to the level of Boston or Houston will take a lot more than that.  (Unless you are assuming that Pohlad would agree to a $170 million payroll), and trading significant farm system assets.  

I suggested in another thread what I would do for Thor (your ace) and money can be spent on the pen a replacements for traded major league assets.  To get much further than that would take significant farm system capital and that would not come close to guaranting more than a 2 - 3 year window with no guarantee of success.
