I'd argue that Cave is Grossman's replacement. If Austin can play some OF, even better, but Austin should be starting next year. 

 

I still want a decent bat that can play DH every day, whether that's a dedicated DH or someone with positional flexibility.... but they need a >.800 OPS bat at DH in my opinion. 

 

Oh, and I want a 2B (Escobar) and a 1 year CF deal as well.

 

Agree on Cave. Would also argue that Wade will quickly pass Grossman as well. In no way does Austin have to be a 4th OF, quality wise. But if he can prove to be a decent, solid, serviceable OF filling in here and there, he increases the entire roster and lineup flexibility.

 

There is nothing wrong with having a big bat, full time DH. But it limits your bench, especially today when 10 and 11 man staffs are now 12 and even 13 man staffs at times. I would much prefer a guy who can play decently in the field at one position at least. Can Austin be that guy?

 

The jury is obviously still out. But Escobar, my personal choice, another infield option for depth and competition, and Austin playing 1B, DH and occasional OF could make this lineup, once again, a very dangerous one.

I don’t believe Grossman should be back but I don’t think Wade is ready to fill his role. It is a big step to the major leagues and Wade has stumbled in his step to AAA. His AAA numbers mirror Grossman’s major league numbers at the plate. I do think Wade offers more range in LF but I don’t think his arm or range make the other OF spots very viable at the major league level. Wade will have a few months next year to figure it out in AAA next year before getting passed by others in the organization.
