I fear Magill will be having a beer in a year from now, telling a stranger "I used to be a closer...It's a tough racket".

Where did ya learn your trade, Matt?

Maybe it's a little late to bring this up, but would it kill the Tigers to please not bat Goodrum in the cleanup spot?

Seeing a guy the Twins dumped play a hundred games at a respectable level is salt in the wound that has been this 2018 baseball season, but seeing him bat cleanup is... what's worse than salt in a wound? Sriracha?

Candelario destroys LHP.

Small world, so does the Twins' player development puppy mill.

Looking for the gray lining of the silver cloud of our win?

Magill has the "arm talent" to close, that is, his heat is fine (94 to 97), and his spinners are okay. Problem is, you've got to nail the corners of the zone to get whiffs. Magill was away from the middle, but he was a couple inches inside the zone lines, which allows hitters to foul off pitches, which is exactly what happened.

Joe Nathan's heat was about the same as Magill's, but Nathan really could nail all four corners with his fast ball. If you can do that, hitters are practically helpless, even if they know you're coming with heat. Heck, even lower 90's heat is effective, if it's in the corners.

Even though Magill wasn't very effective, I see what the Twins like about him, that live arm. Maybe with more training in the off season, he'll come to spring training with better command.

Meanwhile, I also saw what the Twins like about Moya for the first time. That herky jerk motion makes it almost impossible to read his pitches. This was the first time I noticed that Moya does bear a passing resemblance to Eddie Guardado. Pugnacious and clever. Moya's command was better today. If he can pitch like that, he'll stick around quite a while.

so....about that....

So it was a little looper into the seats in right-center. Why quibble over details.

Who, me? Ok, maybe a little, but I was looking more in the direction of 'Red Pill' Magill for that. B)

The Goodrum cleanup thing is just another one of those 'What next?' deals, but in the end, he's not a whole lot above replacement level, so his hitting 4th is really about how bad the Tigers are instead of how bad the Twins should feel that they let him go.

Always Be Closing, Matt. Coffee is for closers.

Taylor gets the coffee, and brings the chicken.

MME gets the decaf Folgers Crystals.
