Do the Twins project better next year with either Wade or Cave getting Kepler at bats and Hedges getting Bobby Wilson’s time at catcher?

I would absolutely not trade Kepler for a no hit catcher

Should it matter that Hedges is close to the league average catcher OPS and Kepler’s OPS is not nearly as close to the average RF OPS?

 

They are both 25. They will both be better in their primes.kepler is the better hitter.

His career obp is .252, his current team just traded for a C even though he’s 25. I have no interest in giving anything of real value for him.

 

I think we’re seeing Kepler’s floor this year. An acceptable starting OFer. I think he’s very likely to be a solid avg or even above avg OFer going forward.

 

Hedges floor seems to be a spare catcher you play once or twice a week for his glove. Drew Butera with batting practice power

great....but do you see THEM doing this? They have Cave, Wade, Buxton, Rosario and Kepler. I can't see them adding an elite OF at this point. I can't see this FO and ownership group doing what the Brewers have done, they have never acted that way here. 

 

There aren't any good 3B available, not w/o a trade. I'd consider that, but I'd be more willing to roll the die on Sano. but if a really good, young, 3B is available, I probably trade for him at this point, given Sano's issues and what the minors have.

 

I agree, they need a 2B, but where are they going to find one better than Dozier has been? I'm talking about where the team can get better than last year, so I don't see one out there.

 

yes, they need a 1B and DH (and yes, I'd rather that be an OF).

 

But yes, if I thought the Twins operated differently, I might suggest a different approach.

To be clear, I think we agree....but I don't think the Twins do. As for Hedges? No way they are trading him right now, IMO. 

 

We completely agree because I don't think the Twins will take my free advice either. 

 

I'm gonna keep saying it though just in case the Front Office is reading Twinsdaily. I'm hoping and praying that they have learned their lesson when they complete the autopsy of 2018 and stop making the same mistakes over and over. 

 

If they don't read Twinsdaily... I'm gonna hope that I change Chief's Mind at least. 

 

By my calculations without knowing the fate of Mauer, Dozier or Escobar. We have exactly one position that I would call stable... that would be Rosario in LF.

 

A catcher with a .609 career OPS is not the place to start when fixing all of that. That would be like trying to fix Rosanne Barr's twitter problems by buying her a goat.

If pitch framing alone was the sole criteria you would have a point. That he is one of the worst hitting catchers by woba knocks him out of analysts top 10 lists.  Lamonte Wade might be outfielder enough. League average OPS has been around .700. Hedges career OPS has been .600. not even close to league average.
