Interesting article about Buxton

I would have traded him three years ago. On record. Could have turned the whole damn organization around. Good for me. Just sayin.

I sort of would have done the opposite, well sort of the opposite.  I would have called him up when he was 19 years old from low A ball during the 2013 season.  He was at the height of his minor league success.  Pounding the ball. Running down everything in the outfield.

Get him to the major leagues while he is confident.  Let him play through his struggles as a really young player and the team sucks.  Their outfield that year gave 322 plate appearances to Clete Thomas.  181 PAs to Chris Colabello.   Somehow they found PAs to give to 27 year old trio of Darin Mastrioniiii (I dont care about the spelling), Wilkin Ramirez, and Alex Presley.  A total of 282 plate appearances of sheer futility.

Sure, the kid might could have struggled but who would have noticed it on a 96 loss team????   YOu get just let him play CF, let him get his growing pains done when he is 19, 20, and 21 and hopefully he develops as the player we thought. he would.

The alternative that the team chose with Buxton has not worked.  While he isn't "old", he is 24 years old.  He is past the time were you can sit around and let him develop as the team loses 90+ games a year.  He has bounced back and forth between the minors that sending him to the minors other than to rehabilitate isn't going to change anything. What is more seasoning in AAA going to do?  He has a career 961 OPS in AAA, his highest of any major league level.

At this point my opinion is the Twins should erase all of the expectations they have for him.  They need to rehabilitate him so he is healthy and get him some reps down in the minors wiht a full rehabilitation schedule.  Then they need to get him back up to MN and put him in CF.  Commit to him playing the butt end of this season and a full season next.  Every game (with days off for rest).  Then he either sinks or swims.

He would have been so overmatched it wouldn't have been pleasant

Everyone loves to talk about Judge in NY. But, you know who is really making that team tick? Hicks. The Yankees this year are a .500 ball club without Hicks in the lineup (7-7). With Hicks, they're something like 24-8. He makes highlight outfield assists, has fairly good range in CF, and is turning in to one of the best offensive CFs in baseball. We didn't need him. Id rather not make a similar mistake with Buxton.

Aaron Hicks doesn't make the Yankees tick.  He's a nice complementary player.

I think talking about any 23 year old player as a hall of famer is pretty ridiculous, unless their name is Mike Trout.

If Buxton doesn't end up in the Hall that will not make his career a failure.  At this point, if he can become a slightly above average hitter, his defense will make him a perennial All-Star and difference maker.

He's actually 24 and he deserves to be talked about right now because he is struggling immensely with a big BIG part of his game.  He has to hit major league pitching and the fact is he isn't right now.  This warrants a conversation, in my opinion.

I didn't say he shouldn't be talked about.  I said any 23 year old shouldn't be talked about as a Hall of Famer.  Especially one who hasn't put it all together in parts of 3 seasons.

My mistake.

I make many of them on a daily basis . . .

If that is the worst thing we can confess to then we're doing OK

He would have developed and been overmatched as a 19 year old on a 96 loss team.  And, if he continued to be overmatched we would have already moved on by now.
