Instead just another dumb loss for Molitor. Not unlike numerous other mismanaged losses in his so called career.

Because Molitor was supposed to not bring in Kintzler for the 9th?

That's where the game fell apart.

You can pick apart every litttle move from there on out if you so choose, but the bottom line is that Molitor handed his closer a two run lead and he blew it.

I'm not going to blame this on Santiago. Tough luck loss.

Agreed

It's baseball. Wasn't the first... won't be the last.

Well after all of that, it was a FUN time and increased/reinforced my love for this game of baseball!!!!

I'll still take 2 guys in scoring position with 1 out in a walkoff inning.  Good teams get BOTH guys home.  Even below-average teams get 1 of them in to tie.

It has nothing to do with being a good team, you didn't want to score exactly one run in that situation.

I honestly thought, when the Twins had the bases loaded in the 14th, the game would be won.

Anyway, this is what separates the current Twins and the best, failure to execute at key points in the game.

And you can take all of that analytics crap and throw it in the trash somewhere.

We could but then we would still have a horrible catcher and would have about 16 wins at this point.

I had hair when this game started

Hah! And my hair was not white when I started following the Twins. :)

They lost the game because they made outs on the bases, some of that with borderline calls that could have gone either way.  Sometimes it's just bad luck.  Outs on the bases are worse then defensive errors in most cases but at the same time you need to be aggressive.  You just never know when these things are going to bite you.

They lost the game because their closer blew a two run lead. I know it was a long time ago.

Did you all forget that happened?

Nobody said anything about scoring EXACTLY one run in that situation.  You have 2nd and 3rd, 1 out...2 guys in scoring position.  A single that isn't sharply hit wins the game.  We got EXACTLY what we wanted out of Grossman, he just hit it too damn hard and couldn't get Adrianza in.  Now you have the winning run at 3rd base with 1 out and simple contact probably wins the game (minus a popup, which the Twins are very capable of hitting).  Hell, you can even get a wild pitch and the game's over.  But if Rosario hits into a DP there or even worse, gets an unproductive out, then maybe you don't even tie the game, let alone have a decent chance of winning it.

But that's fine, think how you want.  If you want to let analytics and Moneyball run your baseball thinking, so be it.

Let's just all agree that we made lots of mistakes and blew many chances to win. Hopefully they can move on, otherwise Houston will eat our lunch

I didn't watch this game as I was busy doing family stuff, but I did follow the 9th via the online MLB game tracker.

The Twins need a solution at closer. Kintlzer's a stop-gap journeyman and it's time we stopped treating him like Dennis Eckersly.  Put the guy in middle relief and find a real 9th inning guy.  How about Duff Man?

Santiago's a bum, and so is Gibson.  P. U.

The good news is they can get the taste of this game out of their mouth in about 16 hours.  Gonna be tough though against Houston.  I'll be leaving the USA tomorrow to go back home, here's hoping when I get back to my place I'll see a Twins win on the board!

No they lost the game because they were out at the plate twice, that's a minimum of 2 extra runs,  after the closer got done giving up 2 runs the game was tied.  I get it if the closer had blown a handful but as closers go he's been good.

Two critical moments were when Vargas and Castro took borderline strike 3 with go ahead run on third with one out. They both spit the bit.

I see i missed a rather competitive character building contest. One can never have too much character...

I would be quite happy with less character and more wins.
