Teflon Verified Member Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 Things we've all talked about but still a good read - Is Ervin Santana's early season success all luck? Keri the 10: Break up the Twins, Fantasy baseball advice and more MLB observations
gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 Nice post. I think one thing that fans and stats are starting to look at more is "the plan" a pitcher has. Keri noted Santana's attack plan against Gallo and how effective it is. If he command his pitches, he's still got decent stuff but he's executing a lot better. Those inside pitches weren't on the plate where Gallo can crush them. He's throwing stuff the batter wastes to get ahead in the count and then induces weak contact down or away. It's been working. Berrios seemed similar. I wonder how much of this is credit to Castro?
DaveW Old-Timey Member Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 Great article.I like how he actually goes into WHY Santana is pitching well instead of the just "its like, revert to the mean etc etc" that a lot of folks throw around.
nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 That was a good one. I love watching the Twins win, but boy, it would have been nice to have Santana perform like this at a time when it would have made sense to sell him. He can't keep this up and it's going to sting if he starts to even out.
