Kind of a weird story about Noah Syndergaard over the weekend. He missed his last start due to "biceps tendonitis" and also refused to take an MRI, where he self-diagnosed himself saying things are fine. Flash forward to yesterday, where he had the worst first inning performance of his career, and clearly showing signs of pain on the mound

Hopefully his injury issues don't linger on for the next few months instead of doing the smart thing by sitting out some starts in April.... Baseball is way more fun when guys like him are on the field and effective.

The Mets pitchers are dropping like flies over the last couple of years... Harvey is a shell of his former self, sadly. Matz has his share of shoulder/elbow injuries. Has Wheeler returned from TJ surgery?

On paper, they have the deepest list of starting pitchers... Unfortunately injuries are taking their toll on great players.

It was the first question today on FG chat:

Kiermaier's Piercing Green Eyes

12:01 Noah Syndergaard had a shoulder issue. Then some things happened. (1) He refused to get an MRI. (2) The Mets allowed him to refuse. (3) Syndergaard is now injured. It is easy to explain (1) and (3), but I'm a little stuck on (2). Can you help?

12:02 This situation is a real mess and the shame of it is it probably could have been prevented, or mitigated, by exercising some caution. After all, this is one of the 10 or so most valuable baseball players in the game, right?
More on Syndergaard later today at FanGraphs ...

Maybe humans aren't meant to throw a baseball this hard over and over?

Nolan Ryan and Randy Johnson must have taken phenomenal care of themselves. I read a book on Ryan's conditioning and it was amazing. I'm hoping that in the near future trainers can come up with programs-strength, conditioning, stretching, dietary-that makes TJ surgery a thing of the past.

I saw a blurb about Ryan giving an interview after a game, after pitching 9 innings, I believe, while on an exercise bike. The writer was a bit surprised, to say the least.

Sure, there are outliers....no one said otherwise.

Conditioning, stretching, diet, etc. definitely plays a part in it but a bigger part is that Nolan Ryan was just born with his talents. I always chuckle when people say stuff like, "Well, Nolan Ryan could do X..." Well, that's why Nolan Ryan is in the Hall of Fame.
