Yeah, let's not forget about how often he came across as a giant douche.

Whether he was one or not, that was the perception, and for good reason.

Because seriously. A centaur painting.

Oh, wait. That's not accurate. Two centaur paintings.

In his defense, A-Rod doesn't have a Herpes Tree assigned to him like the other great Yankee of his era.

In related news, I heard Paul McCartney died in 1969.  Horrible traffic accident.  Very sad.

He's incredibly intelligent on the game. Always has been, and I honestly hope he finds his way into the broadcast booth (anywhere but ESPN).

I've spent pages upon pages discussing PEDs here, and I'll save that for elsewhere, but ARod is a guy who marched to the beat of his own drummer and was quite possibly the most talented player I've ever seen in person. The guy stood out on the field, and he had moments that people will always gloss over in their dislike for the guy, including his idea to have Cal Ripken spend his final All-Star game playing SS while he moved over to 3B, something he eventually did when he went to New York, letting his friend stay at the position while he moved to 3B. Nevermind that he was the better SS. I'm not sure that Derek Jeter makes the same move for Ripken, or at least he's certainly not the one who suggests it to the AS game manager...

I'm not his biggest fan, obviously, but he certainly has his good points.  I do think he legitimately loves baseball.  He does treat fans well and he seems generous with both his time and money.  He treats young players well.  And, as you noted, he knows the game.  He would be good in the booth.

As an aside, so would AJ.  That would be a fun booth.

Rain delay in the Bronx!

That would be hilarious if Arod didn't even get to play his final game.

EDIT: It's raining but I believe the delay to be for his pregame ceremony. The skies do look ominous, however.

Glad he retired. The guy was a jerk.. He lied twice that we know of to fans and organizations about peds.. You wonder how much of his career he was on peds. Hopefully he can help young players and be an asset..
