notoriousgod71 Verified Member Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 is in the batting lineup tonight in Oakland. Bochy elects to not use a DH. This is the first time a pitcher has been in the lineup with the DH available since Maddon screwed up the lineup card by listing both Zobrist and Longoria at 3b, thus losing the DH.
Oldgoat_MN Verified Member Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Bumgarner is a good hitter for a pitcher. That said, you'd think they would have someone available to DH. They have had 16 position players play for them this year who have a higher OPS than the .611 that Bumgarner is sporting. I suspect this shows a level of confidence in their ability to beat the A's. It also captures a good deal of publicity. So, go ahead Madison. Hit the ball sharply!
Kwak Verified Member Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Bumgarner led off the 3rd with a 2B igniting a 6 run rally!
spinowner Provisional Member Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Interesting strategy. The plus side is it gives them one more player to use for a substitution later in the game. The other side of the double-edged sword is that if he has to be pulled early or if the game runs into extra innings the DH is gone.
Monkeypaws Verified Member Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 The one game I saw in SF he hit a home run. He is a good hitting pitcher. Just looked, last season he hit .247, 5 HRs, ops of .743 in 77 ABs. 2014 he hit .258, 4HRs abd 15 RBIs, ops of .755 in 66 ABs.
