Our young SS is hitting like crazy.  I find myself checking the MILB site every morning to see what he did the previous day.  But then I look at the fielding numbers to see if he has committed any errors.  Some days, how many errors.  He now has 11 in 30 games.

 

Is this a fixable thing?  Are his basic skills at SS good and he just needs to concentrate or is he misplaced at short?  He's an exciting prospect but they need to get him in the right place.  But, hey, they've got Sano in right so whose to say?

I would be eager to fast trak the kid, who is only 20. But will he be the shortstop of the future? The Twins also have Ryan Walker (24) and Vielma (21) hitting up a storm and ahead of Gordon on the future call-up track, but do either of them look like a fulltime position player? Palacios is dismal this season and Javier is wandering around somewhere and is far out in the potential to hit the majors.

 

I would love to see Gordon go up a notch NOW and Walker/Vielma replace some of those AAAA guys at Rochester. And see Gordon get some major league action at some point.

 

But it all depends on the ultimate call on Polancho. Is he a shortstop, second baseman or what. I can live without giving any more at bats in a rebuilding year to Escobar or Nunez, and keeping one of them (probably Escobar) for another season as an experienced backup.

 

It would mean making a 40-man spot, earlier than wanted, by the Twins. But at this point...think future. Can he play in the majors fulltime in 2017? Is his year 2018? Will he be surplanted by others before then, by chance, or not.

I agree with this, but unfortunately Twins Mgmt and Coaching, for personal financial reasons, very likely do not want to admit defeat and throw in the towel for the season.  Unfortunately for them, the players at times look like they've already done so.

It has been said elsewhere that teams just don't trade in April-May. When we get into friendlier trade months, I would not be surprised to see some IF players traded and players start to move up. These moves will probably coincide with the draft.

Lol, I do the same thing and am surprised at how often I see him listed as having an error in the box scores. His bat was supposed to be behind his glove and was given good marks defensively. I realize guys can be better or worse than their first impressions though. Maybe the added weight/strength has him less smooth and fluid with his movements when fielding or something like that, maybe just mental errors, who knows, but I have been looking for comments on it and haven't seen anything written.

He's 20 and in high A.  He's quite a bit younger than his peers.  His bat says ready (and a ++ in that this is an extreme pitchers league), but 11 errors in 30 games says his glove isn't quite there.  Ironic in that last season we were saying the opposite.  I'm fine letting him spend time here.  There's plenty of guys in front of him doing well enough that I don't think there's a need to fast track him.  We will see a big wave of promotions here as we near the all star break.  I don't see a problem waiting till then, and honestly I'm not too concerned if spends all season in A+.
