We've had a consensus top 2 or 3 minor league system. Sano, Buxton, Arcia, Rosario, Kepler, Vargas, May, Meyer, Berrios. Each a consensus high prospect. They each did well coming through the minors then got to AAA and the Twins and went to hell.

If it were 1 or 3, I'd say we overrated. But every darned one of them? Me thinks something is wrong in the dugouts. At some point you must look at Molly and his staff and ask what the heck is a goin' on around here.

I don't really know why everyone keeps ragging on Sano.

He has no business playing RF, and has for the most part delivered with the bat since day 1, aside from a early slump this year.

and it's not impossible that playing RF might be affecting his hitting

Yeah, I'd go as far as saying it would be impossible for learning a new position on the fly to NOT affect a young players hitting.

Personally I question the over all coaching, especially the pitching coaching from the minors up to the majors. I mean I get Jose Berrios was going to struggle, what I didn't expect was for him to suck that bad. I just question whether he has truly been coached up to improve his command at the minors or if he is just getting away fooling AAA hitting (since a good deal of AAA hitters are failed prospects or simply MLB filler players). Or you could look at Stephen Gonsalves (2nd best pitching prospect behind Berrios), he has improved a bit, but still struggles with control and has a hard time getting into the 7th innings of games he starts, and finally there is Kohl Stewart, started the year out strong, looked to be a better strike out power pitcher and while he has done well he has tailed off in K's and while he looks like a good pitcher, he does not resemble the ace we hoped he would be when we drafted him. If we have a better collective pitching coaching staff from rookie ball to the majors perhaps some of our prospects can actually make it when the get to the bigs, just like St Louis.

I think Berrios will be fine. His command was never a problem until this year. I imagine a tweak plus some AAA time will work that out by mid-year. He seems like one of the rare talented, uber-focused, and driven guys that can rise above bad coaching. Not saying the Twins are bad at developing players, just saying that if they were then Berrios seems like one to rise above it. But I'm with you on Gonsalves and Stewart. Their numbers look solid in a pitcher-friendly league but the peripherals are questionable. Young pitchers with control or strikeout issues rarely change their stripes while remaining effective. They might show improvement but those issues resurface as they climb the ladder. I hope for the best with those two but I've had my confidence crushed by this last crop of prospects lately.

Most of those players you mentioned are still quite young and developing in the minor league system. Some of them have stayed with the Twins for extended periods (Sano, Arcia, Rosario, May, and even Buxton), but they are still young and developing. Some will make it, some won't.

It could be devastating to the Twins organization if most of these guys don't develop into MLB players. All that work for nothing would be awful.

However, I think the Twins organization and fans alike need to be patient. Anyone remember a former Twin by the name of David Ortiz? He never did a whole lot with the Twins, but eventually went on to have a hall of fame career. Carlos Gomez didn't impress me as a Twin, but he went on to become an All-Star. Liriano's career took a nose dive, but the Pirates revived his career.

I think people see players around the league like Harper, Trumbo etc.. and expect all of the Twins' prospects to magically become a young crop of all-stars and win Championships. Unfortunately life doesn't work that way. Not all players are going to burst onto the scene like Miguel Sano. It's going to take time and development to turn these young players into good MLB players.

Everyone wants to rush all of the young guys to the MLB before they have even played a game in AAA. There might be the odd player around the league that can jump leagues, but most players are going to need time to develop at their own rate.

Unrealistic expectations are simply scheduled disappointments.
