We're friends? Cool. Or was that someone else, and my ego is too big?

Well, I think of you as a friend. And yes, I was referencing your recent posts asking for music suggestions. And yes, this really happened today. It's how my day started. But I put the ear buds back in place, sat at my desk and music made me feel better.

But back to thre Facebook story, I've been listening to a lot of Amy Winehouse lately as a result. And my continued appreciation for these guys ... a bluegrass band from Finland doing rock covers ... enjoy:

I've been meaning to buy a Steve'n'Seagulls album for awhile. Which should I buy first? They've released two albums.

I actually don't own any of their albums ... but I'd go to YouTube to listen to entire songs and then decide. I buy most of my things on iTunes, but no download site gives you enough 'sample time' which is why I usually end up listening to a ton of stuff on YouTube. Honestly, that Thunderstruck cover is one of the best covers I have ever heard. To combine bluegrass with rock as they did ... and still retain the essence of both ... I'm blown away every single time I listen to it. And the level of musicianship on that is just, freakin' incredible.

Also, because our interests and enjoyment of music always evolves, my current top 10 in no particular order:

Cake - Never There

Incubus - Just a Phase

Kenny Wayne Shepherd - Blue On Black

Grouplove - Welcome To Your Life
NEEDTOBREATHE - Great Night

Weezer - King of the World

Courtney Barnett - Nobody Really Cares If You Don't Go to the Party

Wolf Alice - Moaning Lisa Smile

Grace Potter & The Nocturnals - Never Go Back

Kings of Leon - Red Morning Light

Van!!! Steve n Seagulls is going to be in Austin on the 22nd!!! Playing at Grizzly Hall? Is that a place? You should so definitely go!!!!

Haha Grizzly Hall is a place! It's actually a very nice venue to see a concert. I'm going to have to recruit some friends to go!

**** it, bought 'em both.

This is why I watch my eBay deals every day to see when the $100 iTunes cards go on sale for $85 (or a $50 for $40) and stock up. I'm not sure the last time I had less than triple figures in my account because I go through purchasing music (and digital movies) in large quantities.

I buy things on iTunes sporadically enough that I don't bother with that strategy, though I considered doing it.

Maybe I'll set up an alert on SlickDeals or something so I don't have to think about it much (though I can never get SlickDeals notifications to work *exactly* how I want).

I'm not getting much traction of people willing to go on a Wednesday night :(

On a side note, Jimmy Eat World and Incubus are coming to town on August 4th!! I can take or leave Jimmy Eat World, but very very excited for Incubus!!

Okay ... well ... you can't go to a concert by yourself???? Did you get your friends to listen to them, watch their YouTube vids? I will be very disappointed in you if you don't go.

Hey ... and going solo opens up the opportunity of meeting someone ... maybe someone special ...

Not very new but been listening to a lot of ELO lately. "jungle" takes me right back to my childhood living room in  Brooklyn Center. The green carpet with the pine desk that served as a stand for the record player. And the screw folded over to lock the drawer shut. Wonder what was in that drawer...

Baseball games, movies, concerts...these are all things that can be enjoyed immensely without familiar company.

Sometimes the stranger the better.

I'll play along. I would have a few different albums by the same band if I was to be honest, but I will list one album from each band or solo artist that comes to mind.

Faith No More - Angel Dust
Portishead - Portishead
Soundgarden - Superunknown
Slayer - Reign in Blood
Sepultura - Chaos A.D.
LeButcherettes - Cry is for the Flies
Tomahawk - Oddfellows
Ennio Morricone - One Upon a Time in the West
David Bowie - Black Star (Just because it is his newest one and is great, all of his albums could be listed)

Queens of the Stone Age - Songs for the Deaf

Note: Just wanted to salute the collective works of the Misfits, Dead Kennedys and Fugazi

Maybe I did it wrong. I was just posting some of my favorites, not what they play on the Current. But I am sure I have heard them play at least a song from 5 of the bands albums I listed.

Huh, I wasn't aware. Evidently its the top albums as voted on by 8,000 listeners, readers and members of The Current.

Only real quibble is too much Led Zeppelin. The Internet destroyed them for me, I'm a little surprised more Current listeners aren't hip to some of the straight up theft those guys pulled.

No room for Metallica in all that metal?

Only two of the bands I mentioned would be considered metal. Slayer and Sepultura. Apparently, You don't know what metal is.
