David Dorsey from the Free Press in Ft. Myers caught up with Joe Benson. The Twins 2nd round pick in 2006 signed back with the organization and will come to spring training hoping to compete for a job.

The article includes some video as well. He is currently staying with his mom who has a place in Ft. Myers Beach and working out several hours a day at the Twins facilities.

He played briefly last year for Gary Gaetti and the Sugarland Skeeters.

I liked him a lot when he was just coming up with the Twins.  Maybe this chance will get him back to potential, he is only 28 years.  If not with the Twins maybe he will show enough in Spring Training and in AAA for another team to want him as a major league bench player.

If I'm being honest, I wouldn't mind at all seeing Benson make the team as the extra OF. Actually, I'd prefer him over Sweeney and especially over Mastroianni.

If he were to start I'd be a little concerned over what happened to the rest of the contenders, but as a defensive replacement, pinch runner, part-time piece, I'd be pretty stoked about it. Even though it'd be a major detour to him becoming a contributor to the team.

I just want him to grow out his hair again and watch it flow in the breeze on a chilly morning in Minnesota.

How about the 'stache?
