What about THAT Japanese guy.

You mean to the Tigers??? I would bow down and worship at Terry Ryan's feet if he could pull that one off.

Earlier I proposed that the Tigers might be interesed in Casilla, much like they readily took another Twins castoff in Delmon last year. In case you are wondering, in the field, both Santiago and Raburn have negative UZR numbers over the below time frame, with Raburn being exceptionally awful and as Santiago showed last night, capable of multiple Lexi-like moments of his own.

2011-12 numbers

Casilla 255/309/350 Age 28 Salary $1.38 Mil

Tigers primary 2Bs:

Santiago 248/307/356 Age 32 Salary $2.1 Mil

Raburn 234/279/381 Age 31 Salary $ 2.1 Mil

On the radio broadcast last night, they were saying that Leyland had, for whatever reason, said he wasn't worried (or interested or something like that...I forget the exact verbiage) about acquiring a 2B this year. Not that it would be the first time when someone said one thing publicly about their faith or confidence in a player or coach and then went and did something quite the opposite, but that's what they claimed he said.

Shane, please attack with numbers. I am definitely not a fan nor defending him. The Tigers did us a favor taking Delmon, this looks like a possible win-win scenario.

I don't know what you mean. Yes the Tigers did the Twins a favor with Oliveros and even Nelson. What are you asking for here. Casilla's numbers are readily available and I explained that he was good in 2008 and 2010 and for the second half of 2011 (offensively). He has been good defensively and poor offensively this year. He is likely making $2 million via arbitration next year. There is no way the Twins will or should overspend by $1.5 million when likely getting the same or better value in Florimon or whomever.

Now I think I gather what you mean. I wasn't referring to your post. That would be interesting if the Tigers wanted to solve the problem!

After watching them play again this week, it looks like at least a good part of their pitching problem is how horrible the defense is. Bolstering or shoring up the MI, especially when they are so god-awful on the corners, would seem to be a logical and inexpensive quick fix. Santiago and (especially) Raburn are just bad, bad, bad and based on their batting slash lines, are performing at Lexi-like batting numbers. It bears repeating, based on his past, Casilla still probably has a couple of 14-21 day tears still coming at the plate.

No question they have issues at 2B. In fact, that's why the conversation on the radio during the game came up. Just passing along what Leyland reportedly said on the subject.

Being in Michigan this week, I've heard nothing but complaints from Tigers fans about those two, and sadly Casilla is better... though that said, we won't get much for him... he's not exactly a huge upgrade over what they have.

This is a subject for another thread but I think the Twins are lucky that Dombroski and Williams are in the same division as us.

Dombroski didn't learn his lesson from the last time he tried to bash his way to a title with the Sheffield Gang. It didn't work and they had to make some changes to bring in defense and here they are back again Trying to bash their way to a title. It won't work just like it didn't work last time.

Williams does the same stuff as well in my opinion.

The defensive numbers would suggest a huge upgrade in the field. This year's numbers indicate Casilla is at the top and Detroit's 2Bs are at the bottom.

I tend to be a bit of a skeptic with defensive numbers, especially when they say Carlos Gomez is worth 85 runs or that Delmon Young was an average defender. They keep running Rayburn and Santiago out there because of their defense (certainly isn't their offense)... both made some pretty nice plays this weekend as well. FWIW, even the Detroit fans around here that hate their guts admit the two are pretty decent defenders...

that said, while Detroit fancies themselves as a contender, I highly doubt they give up anything more than what they gave up for Delmonster.
