Total downpour here at Great American Ball Park. Game pushed back at least til 7:20 EST, probably later.

I would have to say Herman/Fred, because he could help out the team.  He could fill a need in the bullpen, and since he is close to 200, he would have a good veteran presence in the club house.  Plus, I bet Sid would enjoy interviewing someone close to his own age.

Reds finish batting practice just as the rain starts to fall. Guess who doesn't get b.p. today? Your guys....

Great not only are the umpires against us but now God is?

I hope you guys are watching the US women schooling the Germans in soccer, or futbol. No score, but Germany looks lost.

Sounds like a good use of a rain delay...

Thanks!

I don't know soccer, but I know hockey, and we are playing this game in the offensive zone.

We also have house centipedes. ...which would not be a problem. ....except when flying back from the Caribbean a rather large one crawled up my son's bare leg on the plane. It was so large people switched seats to get further away. The flight attendant freaked. It was never killed....on a long flight. To this day my 6 foot 1 inch 17 year old is afraid of house centipedes.

My older brother is the only one in my family who refuses to kill the centipedes. He says that they're "sweet" and he feels sorry for them, but I'm pretty sure that in reality he's deathly afraid of them. ;)

Once I was playing in the dark and something crawled up my leg. I shook it off and screamed, and my mom came in to see what was the matter. We turned on the light and found a gigantic centipede hiding under the bed. We smashed it with my sister's guitar case; needless to say, she wasn't amused.

And then there was the time when I drew one on the wall. It was a great work of art, but it was offensive to older members of the family and had to be removed. I won't even begin to describe the disgrace I was in for the next few days.

My wife is squicked out by those too.

This discussion reminds me of "Madame Bo-peep, of the Ranches" by O. Henry.

"The centipede, driven by destiny, showed himself on the floor of the gallery, and then, the screeches of the two women giving him his cue, he scuttled with all his yellow legs through the open door into the furthermost west room....Arming themselves with domestic utensils selected with regard to their length, Octavia and Mrs. Maclntyre, with much clutching of skirts and skirmishing for the position of rear guard in the attacking force, followed. Once outside, the centipede seemed to have disappeared, and his prospective murderers began a thorough but cautious search for their victim....Between them they slew the centipede."

I'd hate to break the bad news to you, but your avatar is not a centipede. It is a silverfish.

I should have clarified that this is not the only centipede in my household. In fact, we have quite the breeding facility set up now. It all started about ten years ago when a little one wandered into our home and we took pity, rescued it, and transported it to a more suitable environment out of doors. It went and told all it's centipede friends ... "When lost, go to always33's family and they'll find you a good home."

Eventually we had so many callers that we were forced to extend our hospitality and let them lodge for the night. That of course produced little centipedes who insisted that they should be allowed to continue life in their place of birth and raise little centipedes of their own, and the trend continues to this day.

Besides centipedes, our house provides room and board for carpenter ants and spiders. I was forced to put my foot down when it came to creatures with wings, however, so our walls are adorned with elegantly pressed mosquitos and flies. The moths and parakeets we capture and mercifully release outside.

Is this what is going on when I am not home?

Well ****! Shows you what I know.

It's a tricky little fella.

I was intrigued by the bit about "auto mimicry" where a pair of hind legs are extra long so as to resemble antennae so you might not know which end is the head.

Is this a worthy subject for a rally avatar?

(And fortunately no one has mentioned the aquatic brazilian centipede...)

And oh, US scored again. 2-0 at 85 minutes. CBU

Are we still delayed by rain?

Oh yeah,1-0 US, 76 minutes in.Germany missed their penalty kick, and US didn't.That's the difference so far...

If they were playing the Twins, that would be a pretty safe lead! :)

Who is in the Game Thread tonight? I'm busy watching cellists, so I can't go through and see.

I am!

We get them in the bathroom on occasion.  I FLUSH them.

Then I get out the pump of bug spray.
