Time to make some moves!

Apparently the sky is falling already. Not sure why many believed that this team would compete and now since we are in contention in June drastic changes must be made to this team? Give me a break. This team will be at .500 or slightly below that at the end of the year and they will contend in 2016 which has been said for the last 3 years. So many signs have pointed to this and I was surprised that so many people on here thought this team was going to the playoffs after May. Have you watched this team for the last 4 years?

Now it is 2016? I was unaware that was announced.....

So you think their true talent is to go 10+ games under .500 the rest of this year, but be competitive next year? How does that work?

Basically the whole Lookout squad. How can the Twins possibly give Kepler, Harrison, Buxton, Sano, Polanco, Santana, Pinto, Vargas, Rosario, Arcia and Hicks all 450-500 consistant MLB at bats to evaluate them all? And those are just the higher valued prospects only a year or so away. Most teams would welcome the chance to give Daniel Ortiz, James Beresford or Dalton Hicks a fair look. Those guys will get lucky to even get a token September call up.

Something has to give, don't let these guys go to waste.

You are predicting in the future they will have to play musical chairs to give these guys AB's.  It's not a problem right now though.  Why start trading off the future before it's even a problem?  If these guys prove to be blocked and are excelling in the minors their value will be there when it is a problem.

And if most turn out to be bad, you will have extracted no value.......it's a tough choice, frankly.

Well sure.....but what's their value right now outside of your Buxton-Sano? What kind of value are you going to get from a Pinto-Harrison-Kepler package right now?  An 30 year old average hitting corner OF?  An expensive set-up man?  If they are good enough, they will force the issue.

I see no reason why they should start trading off prospects because they are worried what might happen in the next 2 years if they all develop and need AB's.  If that happens, it's not the worst problem to have.

The problem as I see it, if you call it a problem , is all the top prospects are at the same stage of development, and you will be kind of stuck if you wait to see who is good and who wont be, but you dont want to give away someone who may turn into a star or an above avg player............ideally it would be nice to have your top prospects spread out AAA to Rookie, that way if one of your players that plays lets say SS who is a stud at AAA, and you have another that is in A ball or so, then you can use that player as trade bait because you will have your future covered at that position. I will use Houston as an example, they have Correa at SS and Altuve at 2nd, one a possible future star and the other a above avg 2nd baseman, now they drafted Bregman another possible future super player, now they dont need 3, so one could be used as trade bait for another position of weakness in the future........I dont think we have that here in Minnesota.

I am fine with the Twins making moves to keep this team competitive.  However, no moves made should involve any upper end prospects unless what they get in return can be retained for next season and beyond.  The 2nd wildcard spot is actually kind of scary when you think that the Twins will most likely still be very much in the hunt for at least the 2nd wildcard spot come the trade deadline.  Because if TR is trying to make a push to get that spot or more he could do some very damaging things to the long-term health of the organization.  He has given up key pieces of the future before instead of thinking a few years out, (See: Wilson Ramos for Matt Capps).  I hope the Twins continue to win and supplement from within the organization this year to remain competitive.

No they wouldn't. Most teams can develop their own AAAA players. Having so many top prospects that it's hard to envision a future role for all of them is a great problem to have. I'm guessing the folks at One Twins Way are not losing any sleep over it.

Boom. Outside of Buxton/Sano/Berrios and maybe Polanco, you are getting league average guys in the last year of their contract, or they could be an additional piece in a larger move.

Individually they don't have that much trade value, but there is value in them collectively, as some of them will break through and make it and fill a hole on the major league roster or actually become valuable as a trade piece.
