2014 Twins Minor League Defensive Awards

The Twins handed out some hardware this weekend down in minor league camp. 

 

2014's Ft. Myers team received their FSL Championship rings.

 

They also handed out awards to the top defensive players in the minor leagues. They went to:

 

Infielder - Engelb Vielma

Outfielder - Eric Farris

Catcher - Stuart Turner

Pitcher - Tim Shibuya

Eric Farris is a CF, no?  I'm actually somewhat surprised he wasn't given a legit shot at playing CF for the Twins this year if he was that good defensively.

Farris was an infielder until last year. And I don't know that he had much competition for this honor in the Twins system last year, particularly in CF or at AAA.

I would venture to say that Jason Kanzler is a better defensive outfielder, but Farris did a nice job at a new position that last couple of years.

How good is Turner?  I think the Twins in the next five years will have a lot of offense.  I wouldn't mind a defense first guy behind the plate.

He's very good behind the plate, and I do think he'll hit alright too, maybe a .700+ OPS, up to .750 in time.
