Mr. Ed Provisional Member Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 Originally signed by the Twins in Feb, 2009, Candido Pimentel is in Elizabethton for the rookie season. Listed at 5'11"/160, the switch-hitting Pimentel is at .357 after the first series of the season. Pimentel played for the DSL Twins in 2009, hitting .293. Last 2 years, have had him in the GCL ,with a .265 avg in 2010(46 games) and in 2011, a .250 average in 45 GCL games. 3 rbi's already this season, half of 2011 total, with a triple among his first 5 hits. Candido will turn 22 July 19, so this is a pretty big year for him. I wish him the best. Besides, how cool of a name is Candido?

diehardtwinsfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 given his age, I'd put his stats with a grain of salt... older guys that dominate Elizabethon tend to flame out in Beloit.

Is there really no more productive hitter in that league!? Hyper-valuation of batting average or something?

The league leader in hitting had 4 HRs and 28 rbi, compared to 1/21 for Pimentel, and only stole 3 bags vs Pimentel's 16 Adam Walker's 14 HRs leads the league. The sluggers are not putting up outstanding AVG and are below 1.000 OPS Jimenez played in 37 games so far with outstanding #'s but has missed too many games, else he'd be right there.
rickyhawaii Provisional Member Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/appy-league-review-minnesota-twins-prospects/ Mike Newman gives a mention of him, not that optimistic about his 2nd base skills. also describes him as a slap hitter. interestingly would like to convert him to a pitcher.. Kepler or Bubba Starling should have won the award.. not that it matters though.

Its not best prospect tho. Also surprised that he won, but at age 22 we will see how he does next year in Low A where he will compete for middle infield playing time with higher prospect Jorge Polanco & Niko Goodrum.
