Diving into first faster? Nick Punto vindicated!

Over at FanGraphs they had a post about diving head first into first base, and how it MAYBE isn't such a terrible idea afterall. Overall I think the jury's still out, and the added injury risk probably makes the call to run or dive a push... but there is always something fun and infuriating watching a guy go head first into first. I love to hate it. I love it.

I was against it, mostly b/c of the injury thing, but it was fun seeing how much it irritated some people.

The people who were apoplectic when Punto did it, but can't really be roused to worry about it too much when Dozier does it?

Punto is only vindicated if we can prove he slid perfectly, cause this talks about how the PERFECT head first slide might be faster.

 

And we still have to take into account the increase in injury threat.

 

Me, personally, I loved watching him do it.  Especially when he did it on clear cut singles to the OF.
