Moving the draft?

I missed this but about two weeks ago they made a few changes to the draft - 1) It'll move the draft from the middle of June to July 1st.  2) The signing deadline - July 15 - stays the same.  So not as much time to negotiate with draft picks.

Who does this put more pressure on, the player or the team?  I'd say in more cases it's the player.  Perhaps in most cases it's not much of a factor at all.  Just git'er done.

15 days to sign picks? Wow, talk about aggressive. They went from several months to two weeks in a matter of 3-4 years.

This is very good.  There isn't as much negotiating to be done and there will be even less (my speculation) once a new CBA is agreed to in a couple of years ago. 

 

One problem with the current draft is that the CWS isn't finished.  Players get injured or teams have to wait to even approach these picks.  But you want to get the drafted players into the rookie leagues so you can't wait much longer.
