Day 1 belonged to the Chicago White Sox with their reported acquisitions of David Robertson and Jeff Samardzija. The Cubs signed Jason Hammel to a two year deal worth $20 million (with a 3rd year option). 

 

Who will win Day 2? Will it be John Lester? He could sign as early as today?

 

Darren Wolfson tweeted yesterday that the Twins will be meeting with the Wasserman group. They are the agents for players such as Edinson Volquez, Kris Medlen, Brandon Morrow and others. 

 

Do you think that the Twins could have additional players currently on waivers?

If I were one of Darnell, Herrmann, Parmelee, Pryor, Thielbar, Thompson, I would not be planning on renting a house at Fort Myers this March...

At least two of them are guaranteed to be there for spring training. To think they would DFA Darnell or Thielbar... it's just not going to happen. 

 

Only way they're not there is if they're traded.

Would you (the collective you, that is), have given Frankie 3/$42 million to sign him away from the Pirates?

 

I would not have been in favor of that deal... Liriano just isn't reliable enough.

I worry about his arm holding up over three years, what with all the sliders. If I'm Liriano, I'd probably stay in Pittsburgh were they are competitive in the immediate future.

Sign me up for the lotto tickest that are Medlen and Morrow.  I assume they'll only get one year deals, and it's hard not to be see their upside if fortune should strike.

Morrow, yeah, maybe.  Medlen is a junk ball soft tossing swing man who was a full time SP for only one season and he was injured.  Same guy as Milone, just different arm.

You're right, I was thinking of Brandon Beachy, who also probably doesn't have the stuff that his peak numbers would suggest.  Not sure where either are with their rehab either.

I get the feeling if the money is equal Neshek would resign here as he would be closer to family and I think that would matter a lot to him.  So if the Twins want him they probably can have him.  Plus signing Neshek would make me feel better about signing Vogelsong if that happens as Vogelsong can pitch 5-6 innings and Neshek can pitch the 6th or 7th inning

Good for them, as they'll spend to win now.  Still, this guy's going to fall apart faster than Justin Verlander.  My money's on no more than three good seasons left in the tank for him.  Those innings are piling up and his velocity is already dipping.  It's going to get ugly when the wheels fall off that one. 

 

Innings is probaly not the best way to measure Scherzer either, as his innings all seem to come with a very high pitch count.  Many strikeout pitchers are able to get the K's and still limit the number of pitches per innings; not him.  He's like what would happen if Liriano was allowed to go over that 100 pitch count limit and let loose for 7-8 innings every outing.

Looks like quite a few teams are looking for LH relief. Hope Ryan is dangling our guys out there to see if he gets a crazy offer.

Darren Wolfson reporting there has been at least some dialogue w/ Mets about RHP Dillon Gee. Don't see how we have the SS that the Mets are looking for in return.
