Is this anything? Jared Burton still on the Twins roster?

I checked the Twins website on 10/23/, Johnson and Burton were still both on the 40-man.  I checked it again today, Johnson is gone, but Burton is still there.

Is this related to, and part of the process for the MLB in determining who is formally declared a Free Agent in November?  (Under such a process, this would theoretically give the Twins a chance with a window of time to negotiate with Burton first, before he goes on the open market).

 

I'm assuming that the Burton and the club will indeed part ways, but old habits of bringing back familiar faces die hard...

Someone has to update. Where is Pelfrey on the 40-man, by the way.

Nelson Cruz is still on the Orioles roster.  I guess Burton won't be taken off until he's declares his free agency.

The Twins declined Burton's option for 2015. He was not cut from the team so he is still on the 40 man roster. He is still under contract for the 2014 season. The 2014 season is not officially over until shortly after the World Series. He will become a free agent when all of the other players do. As with all other players under contract, he can negotiate a new extension with his current team until then.

 

At this point of the season no other team would pick him up, so cutting him would make no difference.

The roster is updated today. Pelfrey is listed at the bottom, still on the 60-day DL.
