Mauer owes him for not scooping a low throw in the game on Saturday. He should double down.

Question--I was in my car almost all day. I heard most of the game, but not all. Gardy said "we missed some plays", which was he referring to? I know Santana didn't turn a DP, but Nolasco got the next guy. Hicks didn't make a catch in center and Mauer/Nolasco didn't make a 3-1 putout work (I see that one has been debated here).

The Mauer/Nolasco play was on both of them, but moreso on Nolasco, who also threw a wild pitch (as did Guerrier, which directly led to a run). Hicks earlier on also failed to make a play on a ball in front of him, carried by the wind and propelled with some odd spin, but still catchable. Hicks later compounded that error of failing to anticipate the cross-wind quite badly on the Cano warning track blast- completely turned the wrong way going back and wasn't within 20 feet of where the ball landed- a difficult but catchable play. Santana has that physical stutter in his release, clearly he has overcome that bad habit in the minors with a cannon arm in the past, that's not going to work as well with the Twins, on both DP attempts and throwing out the major league level swift-of-foot.

 

Gardy may also have been talking about Hicks' baserunning miscue, which partly led to a DP, but I'm not sure about that.
