Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Oy. The weather is going to be bad for this series. I'm just hoping they find a way to get at least two of the games in the books before the Dodgers leave.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Going to be tough to get two games in, unless they do a double header (even then, I have my doubts). If I was a player, I'd beg the union to loosen the rules so I could play in nicer weather, and not play this week. But then, I don't have to try to have my body recover after working on the field* *actually, given my broken leg, I do have that issue, but it isn't my job....
stringer bell Verified Member Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Doubleheader Thursday is what I'm thinking. As miserable as it has been today and yesterday, I have to imagine that Target Field is really soaked. Drainage is much better at modern stadia, but I can't imagine anyone playing until Thursday at the earliest. BTW, it is snowing pretty hard here in Rochester this morning. So far, nothing sticking except on the windshields of parked cars.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Not snowing in Edina right now.....
John Bonnes Site Manager Posted April 29, 2014 Author Posted April 29, 2014 I suspect the goal will be to get just one game in and hope for a doubleheader on 5/18. But that's just a guess.
JB_Iowa Verified Member Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Didn't dodge fast enough today. Today's game postponed until Thursday night.
70charger Verified Member Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Didn't dodge fast enough today. Today's game postponed until Thursday night. Where did you get this confirmation? I haven't seen anything on the Twins' site.
JB_Iowa Verified Member Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Minnesota Twins @Twins 28m Thursday’s 12:10 p.m. game will be played as originally scheduled, with the rescheduled game beginning at 6:10 p.m.

I'm particularly interested since I have tickets. Wasn't really looking forward to sitting out in the rain tonight.
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Note also that Wednesday's game, if played, has been moved from FSN to FSN+ to handle the Wild playoff game.
JB_Iowa Verified Member Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Thanks. I'm particularly interested since I have tickets. Wasn't really looking forward to sitting out in the rain tonight. You're welcome. I'd keep that rain/cold weather gear handy -- looks like all of the games this week may suffer from the elements.
JB_Iowa Verified Member Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Mike Berardino @MikeBerardino 3m Nolasco will throw early game Thursday, Pelfrey the nightcap. Nolasco's choice due to edge in service time.
Kirby_waved_at_me Verified Member Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 I wonder if all the postponements are going to be a net positive or a net negative for the starting rotation. Is extra rest going to make them sharper, or does all the cold/rainy weather cancel out any benefit? Will being off schedule, even if it means more rest, throw them off? Maybe that's a good think for Pelfrey, though.
John Bonnes Site Manager Posted April 29, 2014 Author Posted April 29, 2014 Mike Berardino @MikeBerardino 3m Nolasco will throw early game Thursday, Pelfrey the nightcap. Nolasco's choice due to edge in service time. Ugh. I'm not sorry to bump Pelfrey back, but if Wednesday night's game is postponed, I wonder what they'll do with Gibson? After having Pelfrey bumped back due to service time for Nolasco, it would be weird to bump Pelfrey again so Gibson could go. Maybe Gibson would get bounced to Friday?
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 What does service time have to do with this? I must be missing some knowledge.
JB_Iowa Verified Member Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 What does service time have to do with this? I must be missing some knowledge. It's all getting switching around again, anyway. This from Gardenhire: Rhett Bollinger @RhettBollinger 13m Gardenhire said Kyle Gibson will be pushed back to start against Zack Greinke tomorrow. Mike Pelfrey will start Game 1 of DH. Game 2 is TBA. (Mike: Apparently when it was thought that Nolasco & Pelfrey were both going to start on Thursday, Nolasco was going to start the 1st game and he supposedly got to pick which game he wanted to start because he has more service time than Pelfrey).
jokin Old-Timey Member Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 What does service time have to do with this? I must be missing some knowledge. Mike, how soon do we forget? Just one year ago against the Twins, Nolasco just about blew a gasket: http://articles.sun-sentinel.com/2013-04-24/sports/sfl-marlins-nolasco-irked-blog-20130423_1_miami-marlins-mike-redmond-jose-fernandez
JB_Iowa Verified Member Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 But is this an unwritten rule or is it an actual requirement? Now my interest is piqued! (And is Nolasco starting on Friday now???)
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Thanks for the info, and the reminder. Interesting.

Kirby_waved_at_me Verified Member Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 So, Gibson tonight (if the weather lets up)Pelfrey for the 1st game TomorrowKris Johnson for the 2nd Game TomorrowRicky Nolasco on Friday Looks like Dodgers are starting Grienke tonight, then Haren and Josh Beckett for the doubleheader. Kershaw still rehabbing, so fans won't get to see him pitch this time around. http://espn.go.com/blog/los-angeles/dodger-report/post/_/id/9626/rain-out-doubleheader-create-scheduling-issues
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 It also sounds like Hanley Ramirez is good to go. Going to be a tough test.
Kirby_waved_at_me Verified Member Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 For some reason no one has mentioned that this is also the return of Drew Butera . . . With the Doubleheader on Thursday, I'm guessing he's going to see some action either tonight or tomorrow.
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 So far, although chilly and windy the rain is holding off. They may get this one in tonight.
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 So far, although chilly and windy the rain is holding off. They may get this one in tonight. Yep, looking at the forecast, I'd say their chances are pretty good. Though it looks like they might have difficulty playing a doubleheader tomorrow. We might be getting more rain in the early afternoon with it clearing up in the evening.

So "Tuesday's" game was supposed to be tomorrow evening. If they have to push back "Thursday's" game which would be the early game tomorrow, what happens to "Tuesday's" game? Postponed? Or would they postpone the early one and play the later one?

I would think that it would be the earlier one that was postponed and that the make-up game would be played as the Tuesday game if possible. That would keep it "cleanest" from a ticketing standpoint. And I don't think it makes much if any difference which game is postponed except from that standpoint.
