Opening Weekend Thoughts

Twins Video

So, the bats up until this afternoon were cold, starting pitching left much to be desired and the bullpen outside of Duffy was quite decent in my opinion.

Some thoughts:

1) Please let Buxton get a full season in. I really think he could put up video game numbers.

2) They're taking decent at bats, but c'mon Kirilloff and Sano.  I think they start to get some to fall in soon.

3) The change of scenery for Gary Sanchez may do him a world of good.  (this has quite the potential to age poorly)

4) Rocco needs to find a way to get Arraez in the lineup every day.  Though I realize there were two lefty SP for Seattle in the first three games.

5) Duran is the real deal.

6) May be a unpopular opinion, but not having a named closer, or at least a de facto one will be a good thing. (Duffy's outing notwithstanding)

7) Go Twins

After two more weeks of games, we will have an idea of which of these three games are most like the rest of the season.

Interesting take, and I agree. I'm not worried about the lineup. More interested in SP and RP

My take is it might be a while before a Twins pitcher has a quality start. (Hope I am wrong)

Arraez will be in the lineup against all RHSP and probably be used to pinch hit in any close and late games that had a lefty starter.

His career splits peg him as a below average bat against LHP. He's probably closer to league average as he enters his prime, but with all the RHB on the team, there is no need to press Arraez into action unless needed. Give his knees a break against LHP and save those bullets for RHP.

Ah, how one day and one injury changes things. This lineup is about 4 bats long, 5 against RH pitching because you can add Arraez. Kirilloff was supposed to be a middle of the order bat. Gone, and might be for awhile. Sano is off to his usual torrid start. Won't be any better than last year and a better second half doesn't help a team out of contention by the All Star Break. Kepler is who he is -  a lousy hitter. The Catching position actually could be mediocre at the plate and that's the best spot in the back half of the lineup. The pitching? Not that bad. Could be middle of the pack. Defense? Not good so far. Overall? Mediocre team. Let's use this year to develop some more guys.

One of the foul balls Duran threw hit the 3rd baseline scoreboard by me with such force that it broke a piece of the scoreboard off, Never seen anyone like him
