Friday Links-N-Thinks

It was a rough week across Twins Territory as the Twins have won a single game in the last seven days. The Rays came into Target Field and swept the Twins while the Tigers were able to take two out of three games in their series. At this point, the Twins sit at the bottom of the AL Central and they have the worst record in the American League. When the season is lost like it is now for the Twins, losing games might be more beneficial as the team can secure a better draft pick for next June.   Th

What's the next step for Brian Dozier?

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-wF5wpySfALc/UCxbEzXsVqI/AAAAAAAADIs/LUTpUAtfyDU/s320/Brian+Dozier+Minnesota+Twins+v+Boston+Red+4rKGNr9MUeal.jpg Word came out of the Twins organization on Tuesday night that Brian Dozier was going to be sent back to Triple-A Rochester after what has been a disappointing rookie campaign. There had been rumors of this happening for weeks but the timing seems strange since MLB rosters expand at the end of the month and there is only a few weeks left in the season for the

xPE, xFIP, SIERA, the 2012 Twins pitching and other stories

Originally published at The Tenth Inning Stretch (where the graphics might be bigger and more readable) ---   For a while I wanted to take a bit of a formalized look at the Twins' pitching this season to see what we have learned and see what would make sense for the team to do in the future. Also, it has been a while since I took a formalized look at Twins pitching, so it was about time.   The metrics I like to use to do this have been some simple things of my own device: Pitching Effective

Wednesday's Twins Minor League Daily

It feels like almost every Wednesday night when I write this, the Twins have lost, or are in the process of losing. I didn't watch or follow today's game. It looked from the highlights like Max Scherzer had a pretty good day. Oh well. Let's take a look at tonight's minor league action.   ROCHESTER 6, INDIANAPOLIS 2 Esmerling Vasquez had a great game tonight, going 7 innings, allowing only 4 hits, striking out 10 and walking 2. Deolis Guerra pitched the remaining 2 innings, giving up 2 runs on 3

Plouffe

Is it just me or does it seem like Plouffe could have used a longer rehab stint. He's now 0 for 12 with 4 K's since coming back after going 0 for 8 with 2 K's at Rochester. It seems pretty obvious to me that he could have used more time in Rochester to get his timing back but was rushed as a result of Nishioka's "performance."

Minor League Odyssey – Day Sixteen – Rochester (Game Ten)

Note: This is the last in a series of blog entries detailing my game experiences on a road trip to see all the Twins minor league affiliates in their home parks. For those interested, links to previous entries are listed at the end in chronological order.   After a quiet day visiting one of the local state parks and catching a matinee I head out to Frontier Field again. This time it is a beautiful night for baseball and while I am sad that this is the last game of the trip I can’t think of a bet

Dozier to AAA, Florimon to the majors, a mini profile, and controversy?

Originally published at The Tenth Inning Stretch ----   By now the latest transaction of the Minnesota Twins is about half a day old. SS Brian Dozier was optioned to the Twins AAA club and SS Pedro Florimon was recalled. Dozier was benched for 2 games after a critical error on Sunday and he has been at about replacement level with the bat and been strugging on the field on occasion. Typical rookie season. Even here, yesterday morning the possibility the the Twins might have given up on

Minor League Odyssey – Day Fifteen – Rochester (Game Nine)

By late afternoon I am wondering if the game tonight is going to happen. A series of strong afternoon thunderstorms has come through the area and the rain has been heavy. The Red Wings do a good job, though, of keeping the public informed on their website of the game’s status, updating it regularly (are you listening, Twins?) and at 5:30 it is announced that the game is definitively on; the gates will open at 6pm, rain or no rain! Putting on my jeans (I have been wearing shorts the entire trip)

Fans: Would You Give up Memories from the 2010 Season in Exchange for Bryce Harper?

[Originally published at Twins Fan From Afar]   **Full disclosure: this post is full of hypotheticals, and is not grounded in reality**
Twins fans, can you picture Bryce Harper wearing the TC logo?
The 2010 season produced some great memories for Twins fans. Jim Thome proved that you could be old (in baseball terms) and still . Joe Mauer had a solid season. Cleansing The Twins 40 Man Roster

The Twins are sitting with a nearly filled quota on the 40 man roster and it's somewhat ugly. Only one vacant spot is available while starting pitchers P.J. Walters, Carl Pavano, and Scott Baker are on the 60 day DL. Soon enough, positions on this assembly will need to be cleared in order to make way for these incoming players. For now, it's not a problem, but there are a lot of gentlemen here that could and should be removed sooner rather than later. Priority will of course be assessed for who

Tuesday's Trip through the Minors

Brian Duensing put the Twins in an early hole by giving up two runs in each of the first two innings but the Twins were able to make a game of it versus the Tigers. A big bottom of the third inning helped to even the score with Josh Willingham providing most of the damage with a 3-run home run, his 30th of the season. It is a new career high for Willingham and it breaks the previous record that he set last season with Oakland. Unfortunately, the Twins woudn't score again and the Tigers would com

Random Tuesday Twins Thoughts and Tidbits

Originally Published at The Tenth Inning Stretch ---   Here is this week's installment:       Unfortunately Matt Capps' MRI did not show any improvement and he is not close to a rehab assingment yet. Probably threw his last pitch as a member of the Twins. And there might be some sugar coating but re-signing him and losing the 2 draft picks was one of the worst mistakes that Terry Ryan made. And there is no sugar coating for that. Congratulations to Oswaldo Arcia for named Eastern Leagu

Piecing together the '13 starting rotation

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NTcG4nofx3g/UCmmRQdddOI/AAAAAAAADIE/iD7UqsRBjrY/s320/ScottDiamond.jpgStarting pitching has been one of the biggest weaknesses for the Twins in 2012 and it is tough to look to the future and think that there will be help on the way. The Twins seem to be parading every starter that they can from Rochester at different points of the season and the rest of the upper minors is not overflowing with top pitching prospects. The last two pitchers taken by the Twins in the first

Minor League Odyssey – Day Thirteen – New Britain (Game Eight)

After a much needed late wakeup and a quiet morning worshiping at a local church and stopping by a Dunkin’ Donuts (you can’t swing a dead cat around here in Connecticut without hitting one) for a late breakfast, I headed out to New Britain for my only day game of the trip. Temperature was in the eighties and the sky was partly cloudy; all in all a good day for baseball. Getting to the stadium I decide to splurge today and go for the preferred parking ($6) as opposed to general ($4). The extra mi
