Morneau vs. The Void

If The Twins Are Willing To Trade Morneau This Offseason, There Should Be Options   Last week, as the trade deadline approached, Justin Morneau was featured in the latest trade rumors. That made sense. First, Morneau had been productive and healthy. Second, Chris Parmelee is raking at first base in AAA but shut out in the majors. Finally, Morneau is still owed about $19M for the rest of this year and next. Moving him would give the Twins that much more money to spend on pitching this offseason.

A Collection of Thoughts

Originally posted at k-bro's baseball blog   A bunch of random thoughts that individually aren't enough for a blog post, but collectively are, well, something. Or not.     Buh-bye Danny In a sudden, but not necessarily surprising move, the Twins traded Danny Valencia to the Red Sox for rookie-ball outfielder Jeremias Pineda.     Danny seemed to be pretty popular with his teammates, but his relationship between with the organization was becoming strained. Obviously, we can't know for sure wh

Revere in Third Place for Batting Title

[Originally posted at VeryWellThen.Com]   Ben Revere does not yet qualify for the Batting Title. His 4 for 5 evening against Cleveland sent his batting average up to .331 – which would be good enough for second place in the American League. Except that to qualify for the leader board, he needs 3.1 plate appearances for every game his team has played. The Twins have played 109 games, which means that his 331 plate appearances fall 7 short of qualifying.   So in just a few days he should d

Something Feels Different

Do you ever get a strange feeling, and you can't put your finger on what it is? Well lately I've had a strange feeling every time on I turn on the Twins game. It's a feeling I haven't had in a while, what is that feeling you ask? Well, it started on Friday night. I turned on the game and I thought to myself, I think the Twins are going to win. Then it happened again on Saturday, then Sunday and then once again tonight. I don't know why, and it is an unfamiliar feeling. Maybe it has to do

Best dollar I ever spent

Normally I live for Saturday afternoons with absolutely nothing to do. As a middle school teacher, my week is typically filled with cleaning up spills, writing up dress code violations, and holding back indescribable rage. I even manage to slip in a few minutes of instruction when my kids least expect it. So when my wife asked me if I wanted to spend a summer Saturday afternoon at the "Best of the Midwest" flea market, for unknown reasons I agreed. When we arrived, I was absolutely blown away at

Twins Daily VS ESPN POWER RANKINGS.

Every Monday of the baseball season I have to check the ESPN mlb website by noon. why might you ask? Too see the power rankings and where the twins rank in compassion with rest of MLB. Here is the link for this week's rankings http://espn.go.com/mlb/powerrankings Now, I am sure there are more rankings out there that are more accurate and fair to teams that are not covered in the Eastern Sports Programming Network.(the Twins are near the bottom) But one of the reasons I like these rankings is

Terry Ryans crafty move!!! Looking forward to the rest of the 2012 season!

Early on Sunday morning in the midst of the Minnesota Twins trying to sweep the high and mighty Boston Red Sox, the Sox were trying to get the starting 3B for the Twins. When Terry Ryan heard about this he was trying to assess his worth. Ryan had him pegged for about a 6 pack of long sox for his players. The Sox called Terry Ryan and Sox offered the Twins a tub of eye paint. Terry Ryan knew that Valencia would be a perfect fit for the arrogant Red Sox, and it totally made sense that the Red

2012 Draft Power Rankings-8/6/12

A few changes in the rankings for this week. Pitchers still dominate the top of the list, but the hitters are starting to pick it up. Larson has gotten off to a great start, while Buxton is starting to show why he was picked 2nd overall as he now leads the class with 11 extra base hits.   I made two changes: 1) Formatting the stats into two lines to hopefully make it more readable on mobile devices, and 2) Using extra base hits (XBH) instead of listing 2B, 3B, and HR individually.   Again, a

ISO Starters - Angels

I thought I'd try my hand at a post by starting with a topic I've been looking for some time. We all know the Rwins need starting pitching and we've discussed the free agents a bunch. I thought I would look at some starters that may be available via trade or by not having their options picked up.   First team up, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.   The Angels payroll for this year is around $151 million. In 2013, the Angels have approximately $93 million committed to payroll. The Angela ha

Minor League Odyssey – Day Six (Game Four) - Elizabethton

No game tonight, as the “bible belt” proved to be all-too-true to it’s nickname and gave the residents here a reenactment of Noah’s flood. I pulled out of the parking lot in Johnson City at 6pm in the rain and promptly splashed water over the front of the hood. You could see the sheets of water running down the streets seeking lowest ground. Deciding that baseball is not worth sacrificing either myself or my vehicle (such as in trying to drive to Elizabethton) I decide to head back inside and aw

HEEEEE's BAAAACK!

Dick-n-Bert just announced Nishioka has been recalled. Hide the women and children. I'd rather see Smalley suit up instead.

Minor League Odyssey – Day Five (Game Three) - Elizabethton

I show up at the ballpark not really knowing what to expect. It is, by far, the smallest of the parks I will be attending (cap. 1500), which is to be expected for a rookie league team. It turns out to be basically a junior college or division III field. That being said, it does have character. It turns out I am visiting on a busy night. As I park the car and walk to the gate, I hear live music coming from inside the concourse. There is a fundraiser going on for the local United Way, with prize g

Saturday Night Lights

The Twins made their game against Boston very interesting, waiting until the last inning to uncork the big hit they had been looking for all game, with the three-run home run from Mauer winning the game for them.   ROCHESTER 6, TOLEDO 0   P.J. Walters made a rehab start for AAA Rochester. He lasted 2 innings, giving up no runs, hits, walks or K's. Esmerling Vasquez then tossed the next 4, giving up 2 hits, 1 BB, and struck out three and received the win. The game was ended early due to a rain de

Minnesota Twins Minor League Weekly Transactions: 7/27-8/3

Originally published at The Tenth Inning Stretch --- Unfortunately there is not a single place that lists all the transactions in a particular teams' organization in a timely format. Baseball America has a week or two delay in reporting those, so I felt like I should start one, since I am doing it in twitter anyways and on the Tuesday posts. I will be doing it on a weekly basis, Friday to Friday and post them on Saturdays. Promotions and demotions will be listed under the team where th
