Change needs to happen. Rant about MN Politics and the MN Vikings

I saw the disgust on Gardy's face when pulling Hendriks in the 3rd inning. I too was disgusted, had to change the channel. I actually told my wife I felt bad for Gardy. I would feel bad in the situation he is in, when his hands are tied. What do you do, you have to make the trek out there before the 6th inning every game as your team is not in any game. I went through the bad times for the Twins, but the thing is I expected losses, they were underdogs, but yet they fought tooth and nail to

"Blown to Smithereens" The Bill Smith Story

I hope no one can actually feel righteous in blaming Bill Smith for all of the Twin's current woes. Although Bill Smith held the title of General Manager from 2007-2011, my feeling is he was more of a figure head than a voice.   Being that Smith was more of a financial administrator than a field administrator, I believe that Terry Ryan had his hand in the drafting and trades post 2007.   Free agency and contracts: This one is a bit confusing, but after TR resigned, Smith signed Morneau and Cudd

Hendriks vs Trout... I've Seen This Before

Barring something unforeseen happening, when Twins starting pitcher Liam Hendriks toes the rubber Wednesday night, he’ll be staring down Angels’ top prospect Mike Trout, who’s been hitting in the leadoff spot for the Halos since being promoted a few days ago.   Talk about déjà vu flashbacks.   http://knuckleballsblog.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/Hendriks.jpgLiam Hendriks Just over two years ago, the Beloit Snappers opened their season against the Angels’ Midwest League affiliate, the Ceda

Time to address the coaching staff

I like Gardy so it's hard for me to point the finger at him completely, and, as good of a Manager as Gardy may be, he can only do so much with the lack of talent dealt to him by GM genius Terry Ryan. With that being said, I was not at all happy with the way the team pretty much mailed it in the last month and a half of the season of last year and 23 games into this season, I'm already disgusted with this organization from top to bottom. If Gardy is going to remain the manager, he must starting h

The Pohlad family starring their favorite puppet Terry

The Twins are now 6-17 and it's not a fluke, it's a small dose of reality. Terry Ryan had plenty opportunities in the offseason to improve this team, especially the pitching staff, and didn't do it. Examples? Erik Bedard, 1 yr $4.5 mil. (Same as Matt Capps is being paid this year) would've instantly become our best starter, but wasn't on Terry Ryan's radar. Chris Capuano, who we made a feeble effort (low balled him so he signed elsewhere) is 3-0 with an era that our current pitchers can only dre

Joe Mauer and the Infamous 4-3 Putout

[Originally published at Twins Fan From Afar]   One of the more common Joe Mauer complaints in Twins Territory is that he grounds out to second base, and does it a lot. This phenomenon was on display last night in Anaheim, when Mauer was retired on a 4-3 putout in each of his three at-bats. And if you go back to his last plate appearance on April 29, before his day off against lefty C.J. Wilson, Mauer grounded into a 4-6-3 double play. That marks 4 straight at-bats in which Mauer has been retire

VOTE: Best Twins offensive performance ever

Original post from North Dakota Twins Fan ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9DMuI0-XtTs/T6CxgJ6MPhI/AAAAAAAABPY/--E7C0uJ1Bk/s320/Slide1.jpg On Monday night, Ryan Braun put together an amazing offensive performance by hitting three home runs and adding a triple in another one of his at-bats. It was a historical night at the plate but there have been some even more historical nights in the long history of baseball. ESPN's SweetSpot Blog put up a vote of some of the greatest offensive nig

It's the Pitching. But, C'mon...

In my last post, I investigated whether the offense was really as bad as it has looked so far. I discovered that, since the Home Opener, the Twins have been swinging the bats well enough to average about 5 runs/game. They have been held back by an extremely low BA with RISP and high rate of HIDP, each of which is likely to revert to the mean over a large enough sample. Once that happens, we should be left with an above-average offense for 2012-2013.   The news is not so good on the run preventio

A New Voice

I have long been a steadfast Gardenhire supporter. He has been a very good to great manager during his tenure. I realize a lot of fans are calling for his dismissal because of the last year of Twins baseball and some having been wanting his head on a platter for a much longer period of time. At this juncture, I now agree it is time for a change in coaching and managerial leadership.   Ron Gardenhire: Gardy has lost his voice: No matter how hot around the collar or critical Gardy is about

The Diary of a Snapper Off Day

Baseball dominates a lot of our time in Beloit, so when we have a day off, we are left without an idea of what to do. An early game yesterday followed by an off day left me with loads of free time, but no clue how to fill it. What could I do to fill a day without baseball?   I woke up early to help Jhonathan Goncalves make a trip to the dentist. He is one of the happiest and nicest guys I have ever met. I was friend/teammate/translator for the morning. The best way to learn a language is to spea

A Fan's Crummy Team Manifesto

Considering the Twins record this year, I too believe it is time for the fans to revolt. I think that a 6-16 record after a 99 loss season is reprehensible, and should in no way be tolerated in the state of Minnesota. I mean who do the Pohlads think we are? The Pirates? The Royals? That being said I have created a step-by-step guide in exactly how we should respond to our current situation.   1) The Twins fans need to form a PAC for the exclusive purpose of throwing out of office all of the

2012 Minnesota Twins Take of the Week - Week 3

Photo Credit:Michael Donovan viaCompfight   Giving up a ton of hits, home runs and an ERA of 5.77 = LOSING! It also equals a Redundant take! I know last week the take of the week was on the starting pitching and it would be great to have a different take this week but the pitching is the obvious reason why the Twins are losing 3 out of every 4 games in the first 20 games of the season.   If your team is giving up the 3rd most hits, the most earned runs and the 2nd most home runs, your no

Anatomy Of A Mauer Boo

I’m not particularly fond of how Minnesota treats its sports stars. The Puckett-like love affair is rare. More often, we pick nits. Kevin Garnett doesn’t score enough, or isn’t clutch enough. Joe Mauer doesn’t hit for enough power or doesn’t show enough leadership. Fran Tarkenton can’t win the big one, Harmon Killebrew is too quiet, Rod Carew is self-absorbed … the list goes on and on.   (There are forces at work here that are slicker and far more powerful than subjective analysis. Timely hitting

A digression from the discussion on Morneau's wrist, concerning an opinion that the Twins were one timely hit away from winning the 4-3 game with the Angels, that I'll post here now.   Twins had 8 hits, Angels had 8 hits. Was it a matter of timeliness?   Angels 1st: double, followed by single. One run scores. Angels 4th: single, followed by homer. Two runs score. Angels 7th: homer. One run scores. Twins 8th: hpb, double, single, single, single: Three runs score.   For the game, Twins had sev
