How long until the revolution starts?

Six and Sixteen. The worst record in Major League Baseball. Let that sink in for a second. Now....   We gave the Pohlads their precious stadium, and I can only imagine they've all developed Scoliosis from sitting on their cash-filled hands because they haven't done a thing to put an appealing product on the field in the last two years. They just sit back and light their cuban cigars with the $20 we plunked down for a hot dog and a beer at their monument to excess. We're quickly becoming pa

Random Tuesday Twins Thoughts and Tidbits

Here is this week's installment:       Tonight Fransisco Liriano will make his next start after he has been skipped in the rotation. I hope the gods of Fastball grand him command, control and deceitfulness   Luke Hughes was designated for assignment by the Athletics yesterday to make room for Brandon Inge. The Twins have the opportunity to re-sign him and right a wrong   Interesting to see Jason Marquis being the Twins' most reliable starter so far in this young season and that he only ha

How Good Should Our Minor League Teams Be?

[Originally published at Twins Fan From Afar]   I've been thinking about this question lately. Baseball farm teams are, by nature, really interesting. General managers don't set the rosters, or even acquire the players. And I bet if the Rock Cats GM gets a call from Terry Ryan suggesting that he play the back-up shortstop because "something may be in the works," the back-up shortstop will get a lot of playing time, regardless of what that does to New Britain's chances. In the minor leagues, the

AL Central looking weak after first month

The Angels and Albert Pujols had a rough first month after experts picked them to be fighting for a division title. The Rangers have being playing on another level from most teams in baseball. Albert Pujols vs Nick Blackburn, and the rest of the atrocious Twins starters.

As Manny Acta from the Indians said " I feel sorry for the people who are going to see him going forward, because he's going to go off. He's getting close. I'm glad he's out of here." He is at home now vs the worst MLB rotation in the league, if he doesn't go off now, it could be pretty interesting for the Angels.   Let's compare Mauer to Pujols right now:   Mauer BA .325 OBP .419 SLG .428 1 HR (5 2b+3b) 13 RBI   Pujols BA .216 OBP .266 SLG .295 0 HR (7 2b+3b) 4 RBI   Would

Beloit Snapper's Baseball

As posted on pitchersduel.blogspot.com When I was driving from Minneapolis to Ann Arbor this past weekend, I was lucky enough to catch a Beloit Snappers at Pohlman Field. This was my first minor league game, and it was a uniquely 'minor league' experience. The stadium is tucked away between a quiet neighborhood and a soccer field, covering about the same amount of acreage as a high-school ballpark. That is, a high-school field with about 20 autograph seekers, beer, carnival games and a ga

Clarity, please

I hope it's not like last year. After the slow start they turned the corner mid-season, and on July 20 just before the trade deadline they were up to 46-51, mirror image of Detroit's 51-46. There was hope of taking a weak division if momentum continued. As a result, despite treading water the next few days up to the very deadline, they did not move any veterans for prospects; they weren't buyers, either, thank goodness. I supported this approach, at the time. But it was a sad mirage:

The Merry-Go-Round Rotation

Francisco Liriano needs to miss two starts to clear his head, Carl Pavano needs a couple extra days rest to fix his velocity. Between those two pitchers and the others in the rotation that have had injuries and needed extra time off, the Twins' rotation has started coming apart at the seams...and it is only April 30th! With the front office not looking (or even pretending they are looking) to bring in some new faces, I am not entirely sure how the rotation expects to survive the season. A few di

What will the hype be like for Sano's debut?

Original post from North Dakota Twins Fan ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-WwdGU6KVbEY/T554GUTlVrI/AAAAAAAABOk/s4sU_QlBSt8/s320/SanoHaperSwing.jpg One of the most hyped debuts in MLB history took place over the weekend with Bryce Harper being penciled in to the Washington Nationals line-up for the first time as a 19-year old phenom. His first game looked like it was going to play out perfectly but Matt Kemp's walk-off home run in extra innings spoiled the coming out party for Harper.

Fact Of The Day

After today, Matt Capps has now given up runs in 4 of his 8 outings. Comparing this to other pitchers   High Leverage: Jared Burton - 2 of 10 Glen Perkins - 3 of 9   Low Leverage: Jeff Gray - 2 of 10 Alex Burnett - 2 of 9 Brian Duensing - 2 of 10   Looks like that $4.5 million was well spent.   And I don't want to hear about sample size...

Aaron and John talk about the Twins' terrible starting pitching, Delmon Young not going to Hebrew school, booing Joe Mauer, putting past division titles in proper perspective, Ben Revere's brief return, skipping Francisco Liriano, Ron Gardenhire's odd bullpen usage, and jinxing anything and everything. Snappers Weekend

Random thought based on two games...   HITTERS *Miguel Sano has a long way to do. His bat's not ready. His glove's not ready. His head's not ready. Physically, he's a beast. He got one hit (a sharp grounder that slid under the third baseman's glove) in seven at bats. He struck out twice and looked susceptible to any ball that doesn't spin straight. He has time - and should be allowed it - to get that part of his game figured out. He did hit two flyballs that looked pretty routine, but ended up c
